    Abstract: The present invention provides a system for facilitating the removal of the lantern ring and packing in pump assemblies. Previously a steel hook was used to scrape away the worn packing. The present invention provides a series of cables extending through the lantern ring which permit the lantern ring and packing to be easily pulled out when replacement is required.
