  • Publication number: 20120306895
Abstract: A system for testing a conductor of a structure can include a test device connected to the conductor. The test device is configured to test an electrical characteristic of the conductor and to produce a test result based at least in part on the electrical characteristic. A service provider network may be configured to communicate with the test device to initiate a test and/or to obtain the test result. A customer may use a computing device to obtain information regarding the test result, as well as guidance for troubleshooting and resolving a problem detected with the electrical conductor, such as a fault.

The disclosed system includes a loop diagnostic test unit adapted for testing said telephone line using narrow-band and mid-band frequency test signals; a test system controller and a test system server to provide the DSL assessments to a user via an appropriate interface. In addition, the disclosed methods include the basic steps of: accessing the telephone line along the test path that includes selected hardware such as a voice switch test bus, central office splitter, service provider instruments and terminations; ascertaining various line characteristics along the test path using mid-band and narrow-band frequency signals; analyzing the line characteristics to identify line conditions that affect DSL service; and determining the impact of the line conditions on DSL service.

  • Patent number: 7042983
Abstract: A method and system for qualifying telephone lines for high speed data services. The system takes measurements on a line under test and matches those measurements to a model of a line. The model of the line is used to predict whether the line will support data services at a particular level. If the model of the line includes a service affecting condition that is removable from the line, a new model is created reflecting the line as it would appear with the service affecting condition removed. The new model is then used to predict performance. If the required performance level is predicted based on the new model, the line is categorized as a line that can not support the required level of data services, but could if repaired. In this way, an accurate and useful prediction of line performance is provided.

  • Patent number: 6026145
Abstract: An automated telephone line test system that is well suited for determining the location of faults within a telephone network. The telephone line test system uses time domain reflectometry to aid in locating the faults. The time domain reflectometry unit is connected through a switch in the network so that the time domain reflectometry unit can be connected to multiple lines without human intervention. Parameters of the time domain reflectometry signals are controlled so that reflections from the switch do not interfere with measurement of parameters on the faulty line.

  • Patent number: 5699402
Abstract: A line test system for diagnosing and segmenting faults in a switched telephone network. The system includes a remote measurement unit installed at a switch and a test system controller. The test system controller stores data about operating parameters of each of the subscriber lines when they are believed to be free of faults. When a fault is reported, the parameters are measured again. By comparison of the measured parameters with the stored parameters, the fault can be segmented between the premise and the network. Segmentation is performed using knowledge based analysis techniques. The actual source of the fault once it is repaired is also stored by the test system controller. This historical information is used to improve the accuracy of the knowledge based analysis techniques used for segmentation.

  • Patent number: 4479399
Abstract: Three clutch system for operating the composite transmission power train of a farm tractor, comprising first and second power shift clutches, and a master clutch connected by intervening gearing in separate paths to the different power shift clutches so as to be in series with either one. The power shift clutches are selectively connected by electrical hydraulic controlling means to a tractor engine at an engine connected end of a speed transmission in the power train; the master clutch is at the output end of the speed transmission, connecting it to a range transmission which completes the composite transmission power train hereof. A digital microcomputer chip is responsive to manually controlled engagement and disengagement of the master clutch and to other critical control parameters, and is programmed to monitor and control the three clutch controlling means.
