  • Patent number: 4440392
Abstract: The invention relates to games racket frames which are made from reinforced plastics material and have a hollow construction. The particular construction and method of the invention enable a satisfactory hollow product to be made by an injection moulding technique instead of the more laborious technique of building a suitable reinforced hollow construction around a mandrel. The frame is a hollow injection moulding of reinforced thermoplastics material in which the walls (21A and 21B) at the outer and inner circumference of the head (21) are joined by supports (25) through which the stringing holes (23) pass. The supports are integrally formed during the moulding.

  • Patent number: 4343757
Abstract: A method of making a games racket frame by injecting thermoplastics material into the space (13) between a fusible core (14) and a mould at a temperature above the melting point of the core. The core (14) is shaped to have locating lugs (15) to abut against the internal walls of the mould and hold the core in the desired position. The moulding is allowed to set and the core then melted out by raising the temperature sufficiently for that purpose but insufficiently to deform the moulding. The lugs (15) enable the core (14) to be located in the desired position in the mould and to resist displacement from that location during injection. The holes formed in the wall of the frame because of the abutment of lugs and mould wall can conveniently be utilized as stringing holes.

  • Patent number: 4305589
Abstract: The invention relates to moulded plastics shuttlecocks and aims to provide a moulded shuttlecock that resembles a Feather shuttlecock in appearance and simulates feather shuttlecock flight properties more closely than conventional moulded shuttlecocks. The visible effect is achieved by moulding a skirt structure having a diverging array of stems (5) and a vane area (4) at the outer part of the skirt, the vane area being a series of half leaves (7) and part half leaves (8), one attached on either side of each stem, the leaves being shaped to appear as overlapping feathers but without any actual overlap occurring. The desired flight properties are achieved by separating each half leaf and its associates part half leaf along part of the boundary line (10) where they would otherwise appear to overlap and forming these separated portions in different planes.

The support means are integrally formed during the moulding. The method of the invention involves the use of a fusible core (10) which is shaped to provide the desired moulding with support means and which is melted out after the moulding is formed.
