  • Patent number: 8745995
Abstract: A process for heat integration in engineering processes is provided in which, in a heat carrier circuit, a heat carrier medium takes up heat from a first process stream in a first heat exchanger and releases it to a refrigeration system. In a refrigerant circuit, a refrigerant is cooled in the refrigeration system and the refrigerant takes up heat from a second process stream in a second heat exchanger or a second process stream is cooled in the refrigeration system. The first process stream is a vapor stream from a thermal separation apparatus, and the temperature of the heat carrier medium is increased by heat supply between egress from the first heat exchanger and ingress into the refrigeration system.

  • Patent number: 6605192
Abstract: A process for the distillative recovery of high purity monoethylene glycol from the hydrolysis, product of ethylene oxide by pressure dewatering, preferably in a battery, vacuum dewatering and subsequent purifying distillation, wherein during the vacuum dewatering an aqueous stream is withdrawn which contains-monoethylene glycol in a concentration below 1% by weight, preferably below 0.1% by weight, medium boilers and low boilers. The withdrawn aqueous stream is, optionally after further workup, removed from the system.

  • Patent number: 6514388
Abstract: A process for the distillative recovery of high purity monoethylene glycol from the hydrolysis product of ethylene oxide by pressure dewatering, vacuum dewatering and subsequent purifying distillation, which includes the pressure dewatering columns or at least the first pressure dewatering column of the battery (2, 3, 4) having a stripping section with at least one separating stage, preferably with from 2 to 10 separating stages, particularly preferably with from 3 to 6 stages, and a portion of the overhead stream of the pressure dewatering column(s) (2, 3, 4) having a stripping section being removed from the system.

  • Patent number: 6443170
Abstract: A cleaning apparatus for removing residues from the bottoms outflow of an evaporation apparatus which produces tops product and bottoms product and is equipped with an outflow, comprising: a) an outflow vessel (7), b) a collection vessel (8), c) an outflow valve, (10), d) a cleaning water valve (11), e) a vessel outflow valve (12), f) a cleaning outflow valve (13), g) a vent valve (14), h) a line (17) leading from the bottom to the outflow valve (10), i) a cleaning agent introduction tube (3), j) an outflow line device (6, 16) and connection lines between the devices a) to j). The cleaning apparatus can be used in the workup of salt-containing solutions by distillation.

  • Patent number: 6397599
Abstract: In the preparation of ethylene oxide by direct oxidation of ethylene with air or oxygen using water as heat carrier to dissipate the heat of reaction, with water vapor being formed, a process for optimizing the specific energy consumption is proposed. In this, the water vapor is first expanded in one or more backpressure steam turbine(s) T for operating working machines M, before it is fed to one or more consumers, such as bottoms reboilers or steam injectors, for further utilization.

  • Patent number: 6066232
Abstract: The invention relates to a process for evaporating a liquid containing vaporizable oxidation-sensitive compounds in an evaporator in which the liquid is brought into contact with a heated solid surface for evaporation, by a process in which direct contact between the resulting vapor phase and the heated solid surface is substantially avoided. It also directed to an evaporator composed of a heatable solid surface (16), an apparatus (2, 3) for heating the solid surface and an apparatus (10) for feeding a liquid containing vaporizable compounds to the heatable solid surface, wherein the apparatus for feeding the liquid is designed and arranged in the evaporator in such a way (12, 14, 18) that direct contact between a resulting vapor phase and the heatable solid surface is substantially avoided.
