  • Patent number: 4340681
Abstract: The present invention relates to a process for the manufacture of foamed or non-foamed compositions, in which one or more organic or inorganic compounds containing at least two isocyanate groups is or are reacted in the presence of an alkaline aqueous solution, an alkaline aqueous suspension or an alkaline aqueous slurry of an alkali metal hydroxide and/or alkaline earth metal hydroxide, and of one or more catalysts and, optionally, inert fillers and/or, optionally, one or more volatile substances as blowing agents. According to the invention, a mixture of the compound or compounds containing the isocyanate groups and the alkali metal hydroxide or oxide and/or alkaline earth metal hydroxide or oxide is added to a mixture of water and catalyst. The oxide employed is preferably calcium oxide.

  • Patent number: 4233191
Abstract: A method of producing electrically conductive plastics materials from polymers and electrically conductive particles wherein an aqueous dispersion of polyacrylate, such as a thermally cross-linkable copolymer based upon ethyl acrylate, or a polyisobutylene is mixed with an aqueous dispersion of electrically conductive particles such as noble metals, non-metallic materials coated with noble metals, or carbon, and the resulting mixture is spread out in a thin layer on a support, whereafter the water is evaporated at a temperature above the softening of the plastics material.

  • Patent number: 4171390
Abstract: A process of producing a porous polyurethane resin filter material. A first solution containing an NCO-adduct dissolved in a highly polar organic solvent is admixed into a second solution containing a highly polar organic solvent and at least one hydrazine hydrate, carbodihydrazide, piperazine and 1,4-diaminopiperazine. The first solution is admixed into the second solution over an extended period of time during which time the viscosity of the admixture is monitored and during which time the NCO pre-adduct and the hydrazine (or the like) react to form a polyurethane reaction product. During this time, the viscosity of the admixture increases. Admixture is continued with monitoring of the viscosity of the admixture until a point is reached at which the addition of even the minutest amount of the first solution into the admixture would result in instantaneous gelling thereof. At this point, the solids content of the final admixture is between 15 and 35% by weight.
