  • Patent number: 4936891
Abstract: A process for the vertical drawing of glass tubes, optionally with safety strips, sealed bottoms, and, if desired, a pressure equalizing aperture wherein specific tube lengths are severed in succession from a continuous glass tube rod. The glass tube rod, closed at its beginning and exiting through a feeder head from a vessel which contains molten glass, is introduced, being under atmospheric pressure in the interior of the glass tube rod, in the still plastic condition into a pressure tank located downstream of the feeder head where the glass tube rod is exposed to a defined pressure and is conducted on a non-plastic condition out of the pressure tank by drawing. Thereafter, by heating the glass tube rod at an interval after leaving the pressure tank, a specific tube length is severed from the continuous glass tube rod essentially simultaneously with the formation of bottoms that seal the melted-off tube length and the continuous glass tube rod.

  • Patent number: 4851022
Abstract: In a method for ceramising glass plates, in which the plates to be ceramised are hung vertically, a plurality of plates are hung transversely of the transport direction so that they form a plate package. This plate package is passed through a plurality of chambers of an oven in which it is subjected to a direct succession of different temperatures.

  • Patent number: 4820329
Abstract: A process for the batchwise production of glass performs melting, refining and discharging steps in electrically heated identical vessels, wherein at least the refining step is conducted during rotation of a vessel, and discharging of the refined glass takes place while the vessel is at rest. By using several vessels, which are either mobile or which are connected with one another by movable spouts, feeding of molten glass to a distributing channel for further processing is done continuously. Vessels according to the invention have electrodes for heating purposes; outlet port sealing arrangements; and ports for applying over-pressure or a vacuum to control glass exit speed. Blast pipes may be disposed in proximity with outlet ports in order to improve flow of the glass melt by introducing blasts of an inert gas.

  • Patent number: 4630280
Abstract: In an electrode arrangement utilized for heating electric crucibles in glass melting processes, each electrode consists of several spaced electrode plates arranged in parallel and attached to connecting elements. The connecting elements of two neighboring electrodes are disposed in parallel to one another, and the electrode plates of each electrode are staggered with respect to those of the adjacent electrode by half the plate spacing. By using this arrangement, the electrode plates project into the space between the neighboring electrode plates. Consequently, a larger heat output per unit volume of glass melt is achieved without endangering the integrity of the refractory material of which the crucible is made.

  • Patent number: 4619682
Abstract: In a method for the mechanized processing of vacuum molded glass lumps, particularly of heavy glass lumps which could hitherto be further processed only with a large outlay in personnel, the preliminary blowing and the transport of the glass lump to the marver, to the heating oven and to the fashioning station, the final blow-out and the transport to the lehr are all carried out by means of a manipulator. This manipulator has a turntable mounted on a driveable undercarriage, a blowing iron arranged in a holder device, a unit for rotating the iron about its longitudinal axis, an arm for pivoting the blowing iron about an axis at right angles to its longitudinal axis, an air supply system for inflating the glass lump, a two-part marver for supporting the glass lump and operating elements for controlling the drives.

  • Patent number: 4066428
Abstract: Molding of hollow glass articles wherein a gob flows from a feeder into a mold and forms a hollow tube as it enters the mold, and a pressure differential is applied across the tube so that the tube is shaped in the mold to form the hollow article. During application of the pressure differential, deformation of the glass between the feeder and mold, is prevented by proximately positioning of the feeder and mold. This pressure differential is obtained by applying vacuum between the mold and molten tube.

  • Patent number: 3951636
Abstract: Apparatus and transport system for production of pressed articles from plastic material, e.g., molten glass. A series of molds is routed on non-linked carriages over an endless course defined by a plurality of cooperating conveyors disposed over the course. The course comprises a charging section, a molding section, a solidification section, and a discharge section. Means can be provided for varying the speed of the carriages by operation of the conveyors in accordance with the working time at the respective sections.
