  • Patent number: 5057112
Abstract: A pneumatically driven orthopedic broach inserter comprising a continuously reciprocating piston which strikes a proximal anvil during each cycle. The impact of the piston with the proximal anvil drives the broach out of a bone. To drive the broach into the bone, a surgeon pushes on the power broach inserter, bringing a distal anvil into the path of the piston, and creating a forward action which dominates over the on-going reverse action produced by the piston striking the proximal anvil. The piston is provided with a low-friction sleeve so that completely oilless operation is possible. A fast-acting chuck having a key and a wedge is provided whereby broaches of different size can be quickly attached to the power broach inserter.

  • Patent number: 5020416
Abstract: A muzzle brake for firearms including a housing positioned at the end of a gun barrel which defines a gas receiving expansion chamber. A plurality of vent slots or openings are formed in the housing and are oriented to direct escaping gases from the chamber in an upwardly or upwardly and rearwardly direction. The chamber and slotted housing are so defined that reverberating shock waves build up within the chamber and escape sequentially so as to substantially increase the duration of the upwardly and rearwardly directed gas venting pulse and thus retard upward muzzle jump of the gun barrel and minimize the felt recoil experienced by the user. The muzzle brake apparatus may be adjustable to provide for selective muzzle deflection in any suitable direction or to neutralize muzzle deflection.

  • Patent number: 4661009
Abstract: A quick change coupling is provided which is suitable for coupling shafts or tubular members to one another and for coupling a machine tool arbor to a shaft. The apparatus includes a shaft provided with a bayonet receptacle defining one or more bayonet slots. Another elongated member is receivable by the bayonet receptacle and includes one or more detents which are received in locked relation by the bayonet slots. A protective skirt extends from one of the elongated members and encloses a portion of the opposite member. One or more elastomeric members are positioned for engagement with the protective skirt and an elongated member and functions to dampen vibrations therebetween. The elastomeric member may be in the form of a seal to prevent dust and other contaminants from entering the bayonet joint between the elongated elements.
