  • Patent number: 5906808
Abstract: The combination of chlorhexidine gluconate (CHG), SDA-3 ethyl alcohol and cetyl lactate has produced a highly effective topical antimicrobial cleanser having immediate, persistant and residual bactericidal activity. The invention also relates to a low temperature manufacturing process for producing chlorhexidine salts in alcohol based formulations.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: April 20, 1998
Date of Patent: May 25, 1999
    Assignee: Calgon Vestal, Inc.
Inventors: David W. Osborne, Fred Kirchner
  • Patent number: 5858118
Abstract: The invention includes a method for cleaning and passivating a stainless steel surface comprising:1) contacting the surface with 15-45 ml/liter of a composition consisting essentially of between about 15 and 50% alkaline component, between about 1 to 15% chelant, and between about 35 to 84% water;2) maintaining contact to dislodge and remove residue from the surface;3) continuing contact to complex free iron ions liberated from the surface with the chelant to form an oxide film on the surface; and4) continuing contact to precipitate the complexed ions into the oxide film. The compositions may further include a surfactant selected from the group consisting of anionic, cationic, nonionic and zwitterionic surfactants to enhance cleaning performance.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: August 4, 1997
Date of Patent: January 12, 1999

  • Patent number: 5766684
Abstract: The invention includes a method for cleaning and passivating a stainless steel surface comprising:1) contacting the surface with 1548 ml/liter of an acid formulation comprising between about 1 and 60% acid component, about 1-15% surfactant, and between about 39 and 98% water;2) maintaining contact to dislodge and remove residue from the surface;3) continuing contact to complex free iron ions liberated from the surface to form an oxide film on the surface; and4) continuing contact to precipitate the complexed ions into the oxide film.

  • Patent number: 5445761
Abstract: The present invention claims and describes an environmentally sound percarbonate based cleaner for removing cosmetic and pharmaceutical soils from pharmaceutical or cosmetic manufacturing surfaces. The invention includes a combination of a percarbonate; an ethylene oxide/propylene oxide block copolymer surfactant; and a bicarbonate salt. The invention is useful for removing hard-to-remove soils from a pharmaceutical or cosmetic manufacturing surface.
