  • Patent number: 5205972
Abstract: Incorporating fibrous filler into an elastomer by adding to a screw extruder an aqueous slurry of an organic fibrous filler having a length less than about 25 mm and an elastomer latex, e.g., polychloroprene latex. The latex and slurry are fed to the extruder and the latex is coagulated in the extruder. The coagulated latex containing fibrous filler is fed to a dewatering zone. The flow of coagulated elastomer is restricted so that water present in the coagulated elastomer is separated by means of a vent in the extruder upstream from the restriction and discharging and recovering the fiber-filled elastomer. The compound can be used for the manufacture of power transmission belts.

  • Patent number: 5205973
Abstract: Incorporation of fibrous filler into a styrene-butadiene rubber (SBR) by mixing a fibrous filler, SBR latex and a coagulant, feeding the resulting coagulated fiber-filled SBR latex to a dewatering extruder and through a flow restriction that applies back pressure sufficient that water present in the SBR is forced out of a vent upstream from the flow restriction and discharging the fiber-filled SBR from the extruder.

  • Patent number: 5025044
Abstract: Blends of asphalt emulsions or melts and aqueous elastomeric latices are prepared using a screw type extruder adapted to provide sufficient back pressure within the screw flights of the extruder to express the water from the blend through a vent provided in the extruder.

  • Patent number: 4970037
Abstract: This invention relates to a process for preparing a photosensitive composition having a low heat history which includes:(a) forming a substantially homogeneous dispersion by mixing at least one photoinitiator or photoinitiating system, and at least one binder selected from the group consisting of reactive binders and non-reactive binders in the form of a dispersion provided that when said binder is non-reactive then at least one reactive component is added which is capable of reacting with the photoinitiator;(b) coagulating the dispersion to form a coagulum and a liquid; and(c) substantially removing the liquid to form a photosensitive composition.

  • Patent number: 4943402
Abstract: Removing chloroprene dimers from polychloroprene by feeding to a screw extruder a polychloroprene latex and coagulating the latex in the extruder, feeding the coagulated latex to a dewatering zone and discharging the coagulated polychloroprene through a flow restriction which heats and pressurizes the polychloroprene to an area of reduced pressure to form a porous crumb. Also, the flow restriction applies back pressure sufficient that the water in the polychloroprene is forced out of a vent port. The polychloroprene crumb discharged from the extruder is heated to strip chloroprene dimer therefrom.
