  • Patent number: 9852761
Abstract: A method is performed at a multifunction device with a display and a touch-sensitive surface. User selection of an audio or video file to be sent in an electronic message is detected. In response to detecting a first input by the user, an audio or video file editing interface is displayed. The editing interface comprises: a time bar, a user-adjustable begin-edit icon, and a user-adjustable end-edit icon. The distance between the user-adjustable begin-edit icon and the user-adjustable end-edit icon is constrained to be equal to or less than a distance that corresponds to a predefined maximum allowable size for the file. In response to detecting a second input by the user on the touch-sensitive surface, at least one of the begin-edit icon and the end-edit icon is adjusted in the audio or video file editing interface. The audio or video file is edited to a shorter.

  • Patent number: 9772751
Abstract: A first user interface is displayed without concurrently displaying a second user interface that is distinct from the first user interface. A gesture to select the second user interface is detected on the touch screen display. In response to detecting the gesture, an animation is displayed of a transition from display of the first user interface to display of the second user interface. The animation comprises sliding a first element of the second user interface onto the display from a first side of the display while simultaneously sliding a second element of the second user interface that contacts the first element horizontally across the top of the first element. The first element of the second user interface is distinct from the second element of the second user interface.

  • Publication number: 20170161018
Abstract: The digital assistant displays a digital assistant object in an object region of a display screen. The digital assistant then obtains at least one information item based on a speech input from a user. Upon determining that the at least one information item can be displayed in its entirety in the display region of the display screen, the digital assistant displays the at least one information item in the display region, where the display region and the object region are not visually distinguishable from one another. Upon determining that the at least one information item cannot be displayed in its entirety in the display region of the video display screen, the digital assistant displays a portion of the at least one information item in the display region, where the display region and the object region are visually distinguishable from one another.

  • Publication number: 20170083179
Abstract: Techniques for processing task items are provided. A task item is electronic data that represents a task to be performed, whether manually or automatically. A task item includes one or more details about its corresponding task, such as a description of the task and a location of the task. Specifically, techniques for generating task items, organizing task items, triggering notifications of task items, and consuming task items are described. In one approach, a task item is generated based on input from a user and context of the input. In another approach, different attributes of task items are used to organize the task items intelligently into multiple lists. In another approach, actions other than the generation of notification are enabled or automatically performed, actions such as emailing, calling, texting, and searching.

  • Patent number: 9575646
Abstract: In accordance with some embodiments, a computer-implemented method is performed at a portable multifunction device with a rectangular touch screen display that includes a portrait view and a landscape view. The method includes detecting the device in a first orientation, and while the device is in the first orientation, displaying an application in a first mode on the touch screen display in a first view. The method also includes detecting the device in a second orientation, and in response to detecting the device in the second orientation, displaying the application in a second mode on the touch screen display in a second view. The first mode of the application differs from the second mode of the application by more than a change in display orientation.

  • Patent number: 9330381
Abstract: In accordance with some embodiments, a computer-implemented method is performed at a portable multifunction device with a touch screen display. The touch screen display includes a long axis, a short axis, a portrait view and a landscape view. The computer-implemented method includes executing a calendar application. In response to detecting the portable multifunction device in a first orientation that comprises a substantially vertical orientation of the long axis, a calendar is displayed for a first time period in the portrait view. In response to detecting the portable multifunction device in a second orientation that comprises the substantially vertical orientation of the short axis, a calendar is displayed for a second time period in the landscape view. • Publication number: 20160070466
Abstract: The embodiments herein describe a mode of applications on the portable electronic device that improves single-handed operation of the devices. For example, the embodiments herein describe an ergonomic mode of an application that displays the graphical user interface (GUI) of the application in a bottom area of the display screen of the electronic device to allow the user to more easily interact with objects. The embodiments herein also describe an ergonomic mode of a keyboard displayed on the display screen of the portable electronic device. During the ergonomic mode of the keyboard, the keyboard is shifted towards a vertical edge of the display screen to allow a user to more easily reach keys of the keyboard that were previously unreachable without the user switching to two handed operation of the device or repositioning the electronic device in the user's hand.
