  • Publication number: 20040252906
Abstract: A method and system with which quality of an image derived from or addressed to a chain of appliances can be modified. Formatted information related to defects of the appliances is employed. The method and system: compile directories of sources of formatted information related to the appliances, search automatically for the formatted information related to the appliances, and modify the image automatically by image-processing software and/or image-processing components by taking into account the obtained formatted information. The formatted information can be modified as a function of variable characteristics of the image to be processed and/or the appliances. With the method and system it is possible to process images derived from appliances that have diverse origins and that have been commercialized gradually over time. Such a method and system are applicable to processing of photographic or video images and in optical instrumentation, industrial controls, robotics, metrology, etc.

  • Publication number: 20040247196
Abstract: A system and a method for calculating a transformed image from a digital image and from formatted information related to defects of an appliance chain for image capture and/or restitution. The system and method provide for automatically determining the characteristic noise data from formatted information and/or from the digital image. The transformed image can therefore be corrected such that it does not exhibit any visible or annoying defects, especially defects related to noise, as regards its subsequent use. The system and method are applicable to photographic or video image processing, in optical devices, industrial controls, robotics, metrology, etc.

  • Publication number: 20040240750
Abstract: The invention relates to a processing system and method for producing formatted information related to the appliances (APP1 to 3) of an appliance chain (APP1). This appliance chain comprises in particular at least one image-capture appliance (APP1) and/or at least one image-restitution appliance (App3) for capturing and/or restituting an image (M) on a medium (SC). The invention aims at producing formatted information related to the geometric distortions of at least one appliance of the said chain. The invention provides different alternative embodiments, especially that with which fixed characteristics of the appliances and/or variable characteristics depending on the image (I) can be taken into account. The fixed characteristics and/or the variable characteristics are capable of being associated with one or more characteristic values, especially the focal length and/or the focusing.

  • Publication number: 20040234152
Abstract: The invention concerns a method and a system for reducing update frequency of image processing means (P1), in particular a software and/or a component. The image processing means (P1) enable to modify the quality of digital images (P2) derived from and addressed to a set of appliances (P3). The set of appliances (P3) comprises an image capture device and/or an image scanning device. The image processing means (P1) use formatted data (P4) dependent on at least one variable, associated with the defects (P5) of at least on appliance (P25) of said set of appliances (P3). The formatted data include in particular parameters (P9) of at least a parameterable model dependent on said variables. The formatted data enable to establish a correspondence, in particular by means of a correspondence table, between part of said variables and identifiers. The identifiers enable to determine the value of the variable corresponding to an identifier taking into account said identifier and the image (P2).

  • Publication number: 20040218803
Abstract: A system and method for producing formatted information related to at least one image-capture appliance and/or at least one image-restitution appliance. The system and method provide for production of formatted information related to defects of the appliance, especially blurring and noise, from a measured field. This measured field is obtained from a universal set by performing the operations: capturing or restituting the universal set by the appliance to produce an image; choosing an image zone within the image; calculating a reference image from the image; selecting, within the reference image, a reference zone homologous to the image zone; choosing a base for representing all or part of the image zones and reference zones; selecting variable characteristics of the appliance; and in this way the measured field is obtained. The system and method are applicable to photographic or video image processing, in optical devices, industrial controls, robotics, metrology, etc.

  • Publication number: 20040218071
Abstract: The invention relates to a system and a method for correcting the chromatic aberrations (1) of a color image (3) composed of a plurality of digitized color planes (4). This color image (3) is assumed to have been produced by means of an optical system (5). According to the invention, the geometric anomalies of the said digitized color planes (4) are modeled and corrected, at least partly, in such a way as to obtain corrected digitized color planes (17). The corrected digitized color planes (17) are then combined in such a manner as to obtain a color image (19) corrected completely or partly for the chromatic aberrations (1). The invention is applicable to photographic or video image processing, in optical devices, industrial controls, robotics, metrology, etc.

  • Publication number: 20040036766
Abstract: A method and system for detecting an object in a zone located proximate to an interface between two liquid and/or gaseous media having different refractive indices, for example of the air/water type. The method and system produce at least a video image of the interface and the zone and produces electric signals representing each video image. Then, the electric signals are digitized and the data is processed by discriminating the data corresponding to the video image of the real object from those corresponding to the apparent video image generated by the interface.

  • Patent number: 6452637
Abstract: A process for obtaining information from at least two image frames of a sequence of frames, each of the frames including an array of pixels, each pixel having an amplitude, one of the two frames being designated as a reference frame and the other being a non-reference frame, the process including: (1) defining a set of velocities with which the motion of pixels between the two frames may be modeled; dividing each one of the two frames into plural regions, each region in each one of the two frames corresponding to a region in the other of the two frames; (2) determining an error for each one of at least some of the velocities by carrying out the following steps for each one of the regions and for each union of pairs of the regions: (A) mapping each pixel of the non-reference frame into the reference frame in accordance with the one velocity, (B) computing an error amount which is a function of a difference in pixel amplitude attributable to the mapping; (C) designating a minimum one of the error amounts

  • Patent number: 5909251
Abstract: A process for performing image frame fusion on a pixel-by-pixel basis by estimating velocities and occlusions between at least two image frames of a sequence of frames. For each pixel, the possible matchings are those that minimize changes in a selected parameter of the image (generally the grey-level). The process uses a region-growing procedure to reduce the number of possible matchings for each pixel. The output is a decomposition of the images into regions in which pixels move with the same model of velocity or are all occluded. The process includes a multi-scale description of velocities between two images, a multi-scale segmentation of the images into regions having different motion, a correcting term for sampling errors, sub-pixel motion errors and an occlusion estimation step. A preferred embodiment employs pyramidal calculations.
