  • Publication number: 20150345308
Abstract: A turbine component is disclosed. The turbine component includes an outer shroud and an inner shroud having a first hook region extending over a first portion of the outer shroud and a second hook region extending over a second portion of the outer shroud. A first hook gap, a second hook gap, a first radial gap, and a second radial gap are arranged and disposed to permit the inner shroud to deflect from the outer shroud under thermal loading. Additionally or alternatively, the inner shroud includes ceramic matrix composite fibers having a thermal conductivity of less than 200 W/m·k and greater than 10 W/m·k.

  • Publication number: 20150345388
Abstract: A process of producing a ceramic matrix composite gas turbine component and a ceramic matrix composite gas turbine component are provided. The process includes modifying a surface of the ceramic matrix composite gas turbine component to produce a modified surface with a surface roughness of less than 6 micrometers. The modifying is selected from the group of techniques consisting of applying unreinforced matrix plies to the surface, vapor depositing silicon on the surface, honing the surface, applying braze paste to the surface, and combinations thereof. The component includes a modified surface including a surface roughness of less than 6 micrometers. The modified surface being selected from the group consisting of unreinforced matrix plies applied to a surface of the ceramic matrix composite gas turbine component, silicon vapor deposited on the surface, a honed surface, a braze paste applied to the surface, and combinations thereof.

  • Patent number: 9181809
Abstract: The present invention is a coated article containing at least two adjacent cooling holes that are substantially uncoated. In an embodiment, the coated article includes a base material, an outer surface and a coating on a portion of the outer surface. Here, the adjacent cooling holes are arranged along an axis on the outer surface and extend within the base material at an angle to the outer surface. The coating may include at least one unfinished edge oriented substantially parallel to the axis and set off at an oblique angle and a distance from the adjacent cooling holes.

  • Patent number: 8651799
Abstract: A turbine vane or blade segment includes at least one airfoil extending radially outwardly from a radially inner band. A plurality of cooling passages are formed in the radially inner band in fluid communication with an internal plenum in the airfoil and exiting the inner band via a plurality of exit holes in the one of the axially-extending side edges of the inner band. The plurality of exit holes are confined to a region along the one of the axially-extending side edges where static pressure PS along the one of the substantially axially-extending side edges lies in a pressure range substantially between the stage inlet total pressure PT and a pressure that is substantially about 1.5 times the dynamic pressure range ?PD, below the stage inlet total pressure.

  • Publication number: 20120308399
Abstract: A turbine vane or blade segment includes at least one airfoil extending radially outwardly from a radially inner band. The radially inner band is formed with substantially axially-extending side edges, and the at least one airfoil is formed with a leading edge, a trailing edge, a pressure side, a suction side, and an internal cooling plenum. The pressure side faces one of the substantially axially-extending side edges and the leading edge is located proximate to that one edge. A plurality of cooling passages are formed in the radially inner band in fluid communication with the internal plenum and exiting the inner band via a plurality of exit holes in the one of the substantially axially-extending side edges.

  • Publication number: 20120128472
Abstract: A turbomachine nozzle segment includes a vane having a first end extending to a second end through an airfoil portion. An outer member is positioned at the first end of the vane. The outer member includes a mounting element configured and disposed to secure the turbomachine nozzle segment to a turbomachine. An inner member is positioned at the second end of the vane. The inner member includes an upstream section and a downstream section. An upstream diaphragm member extends substantially radially outwardly from the inner member at the upstream section, and a downstream diaphragm member extends substantially radially outwardly from the inner member at the downstream section. Each of the upstream diaphragm member and down stream member includes an outer surface and an inner surface. One of the outer surface and inner surface of each of the upstream diaphragm member and downstream diaphragm member includes a cartridge mounting member.
