    Abstract: A fluid connector includes an extending section having a spiked end to pierce a container port. The extending section includes at least one air conduit and at least one fluid conduit therethrough. The extending section further includes first and second abutment members. The first abutment member is adapted to abut a first or air side of the container port upon piercing of the container port, and the second abutment member, which is spaced from the first abutment member, is adapted to abut a second or fluid side of the container port. The fluid connector can further include grasping members extending from the extending section to facilitate rotation of the extending section relative to the container port during piercing thereof. The fluid connector can also include a check valve in fluid connection with the at least one air conduit. The check valve may be positioned within the extending section.

The second fluid path includes at least one filter between the opening and the open top end through which fluid can pass from the first fluid path to the second fluid path but through which at least one component of the injectate cannot pass.

The connector includes a gas inlet passage that is configured for connecting to a source of pressurized gas, a spike configured for piercing a stopper of a container, and a liquid outlet passage in fluid communication with the spike. The liquid outlet passage is configured for connecting to tubing through which the liquid in the container can be administered to a patient. The spike has a shield having a first closed end and a second open end such that the first closed end is breakable by the spike when the spike is inserted through the stopper of the container, and the second open end has an annular elastomeric member that attaches to the spike via compressive pressure applied by the annular elastomeric member.

A pump unit may be provided for dispensing fluid from the first and second fluid path elements optionally into a third fluid path element. Also, methods for priming the hazardous fluid transport container and for mitigating laminar flow injection bolus spreading are disclosed. Additionally, disclosed is a radioactive fluid transport container for a syringe or other container. The radioactive fluid transport container allows the syringe or container to be used in an injection procedure without removal from the container.
