  • Patent number: 5009671
Abstract: Water resistant coal briquettes are obtained by mixing finely divided coal with a first starchy binder in an amount of 0.5 to 3 wt % and with a second binder that contains molasses or fermented molasses (vinasse) and water in an amount of 1 to 4 wt %, and the green briquettes produced from this mixture are subjected to a heat treatment in at least two steps, whereby the green molded articles are first pretreated at 80.degree. to 150.degree. C. and optionally dried and then hardened at 200.degree. to 300.degree. C.

  • Patent number: 4968324
Abstract: Solid, finely divided fuels based on coal with a particle size distribution according to which at least 90% of the particles have a size of less than 90 .mu.m, whereby the fuel contains 0.1 to 5 wt % calcium compounds and 0.01 to 1 wt % of a halogen-free and sulfur-free water-soluble iron compound, each based on dry weight, plus calcium and iron, permit an effective reduction n nitrogen oxide emissions in combustion gases when produced in such a way that the coal is impregnated with a 5 to 60 wt % aqueous solution of the iron salt and separately from that is also impregnated with a 10 to 75 wt % solution or suspension of calcium hydroxide and water in the absence of briquetting or pelletizing binders and then is milled in a milling and drying installation and dried to a water content of less than 1 wt %.

Inventors: Friedrich H. Franke, Michael J. Paersch
  • Patent number: 4741278
Abstract: A solid carbonaceous fuel containing up to 10% wt of calcium compounds and 0.1 to 5% wt of added iron added as oxide, carbonate or elemental iron or as substantially halogen and sulphate-free iron-containing substances forming iron oxide or carbonate under furnace conditions. The additives act synergistically to reduce NO.sub.x.

    Assignee: British Petroleum Company p.l.c.
Inventors: Friedrich H. Franke, Michael J. Paersch
  • Patent number: 4266968
Abstract: In a process for injecting fine-grain brown coal or lignite into a blast furnace through tuyere arches thereof, the initial speed at which coal dust, after leaving the supply conduit, moves towards the center of the blast furnace hearth is substantially lower than the speed at which the hot blast is blown into the furnace.

  • Patent number: 3954444
Abstract: A process for the direct reduction of iron ores using a reducing gas mixture which is passed through a shaft furnace containing the ore to be reduced is disclosed. The process is characterized in that the partial flow of reducing gas mixture is removed from the furnace approximately at the point of transition between the magnetite and Wustite stages of the ore and is regenerated. The regenerated reducing gas is then reapplied to the furnace with a fresh reducing gas mixture resulting in a substantial energy saving.
