  • Patent number: 8585333
Abstract: The invention relates to a spindle, in particular a machine spindle, which is used to machine a work piece by means of a tool which is applied to the spindle, comprising an axially displaceable tension rod (30) which is used to secure the tool to the spindle, and a drive shaft (4) which is driven, in particular, by the motor of the spindle. The drive shaft of the spindle can be connected via a coupling device either to the tension rod (30) for axially displacing the tension rod (30) in order to change tools or to the tool in order to machine the work piece. The tension rod (30) can be axially displaced in a work shaft (1) which is embodied as a hollow shaft. The work shaft (1) can be arrested in relation to the housing (2) of the spindle in a first coupling position in order to axially displace the tension rod (30) within the work shaft (1) by the drive shaft (4). The angle position of the work shaft (1) and the drive shaft (4) can be freely selected in the first coupling position.

  • Patent number: 5868050
Abstract: A process for the continuous chipless separation of identical individual rings from tubular workpieces by using cutting rollers. In order to produce highly-accurate rings, preferably from antifriction bearing steel, the section of the tubular workpiece to be separated is completely encompassed by the longitudinal contour of the cutting rollers and the faces of the rings are produced plane-parallel and vertical relative to the workpiece axis. What is essential is that prior to the cutting process the tubular workpiece is heated to a temperature that substantially lowers the deformation resistances of the material used.

  • Patent number: 4967461
Abstract: Method and apparatus for manufacturing thin wafers from bars, such as in the manufacture of wafers for use as semiconductor substrates, include an arrangement wherein a holder member is fastened to the bar, the bar is sliced to separate a disc-shaped wafer therefrom and wherein prior to completion of the slicing operation, the end face of the bar is leveled to a precisely planar condition. The slicing operation is terminated after the bar is sliced completely through and the holder member is partially, but not completely, sliced through so that a wafer formed by the slicing operation remains connected to the bar by the holder member. The wafer is disconnected from the bar by abrading a portion of the holder member connecting the wafer to the bar.

  • Patent number: 4572525
Abstract: Centrifugal chucking apparatus for fixing a member to be rotated to a rotatable driving member includes a cylindrical cage member adapted to be mounted for rotation with the driving member, at least one clamping body movably mounted within an aperture formed in the cage member and which moves into engagement with the member to be rotated during rotation of the driving member under the action of centrifugal force, and at least one lever member associated with the clamping body and mounted for rotation with the driving and cage members. The lever member mutually engages both the clamping body and the cage member and during rotation of the driving member the lever member is urged outwardly under the action of centrifugal force. The lever member is appropriately positioned so that as a result of this outward urging under centrifugal force, the lever member exerts a force against the clamping body which has a direction to increase the force with which the clamping body engages the member to be rotated.

  • Patent number: 4149343
Abstract: A surface grinding method and apparatus wherein workpieces are ground with a ring-shaped grinding wheel having a ring-shaped grinding surface the inner diameter of which is relatively large with respect to the dimensions of the workpieces. The method and apparatus include steps and structure for providing between the workpieces and the ring-shaped grinding wheel a relative movement where the workpieces travel along a substantially cycloidal path with each workpiece having a point at the surface thereof which is ground by the grinding wheel and passes at least twice across the grinding surface between the outside and the inside thereof. To bring about this relative cycloidal movement, the central axis of either of the work-supporting structure or the grinding structure, preferably the work-supporting structure, is displaced around an axis which is parallel to its central axis, while this central axis is simultaneously moved inwardly toward and outwardly away from the axis parallel thereto.
