Abstract: A radar performance monitor (RPM) receives a transmitted radar signal from a radar system being monitored and couples the signal to a recirculating loop comprising a SAW delay line in order to produce a series of simulated radar return signals of equal amplitude and by using the same frequency as the received radar signal providing the frequency falls within a predetermined bandwidth of the SAW delay line. The incoming radar return signals are digitized and stored in shift registers with the timing to write the data into the shift registers dependent upon the radar range setting. After the digitized radar return signals have been read into the shift registers, they are read out to the display in a constant time period independent of the range setting. Every buoy is assigned a unique carrier frequency upon which is transmitted a signal capable of identifying the buoy. Each buoy is shown on harbor charts according to the unique properties of its signal. Radio receiving means carried aboard vessels navigating through the harbor or channel include means for determining the identity of the buoy from which signals are received and the direction from which the received signals emanate.
