Patent number: 5299554Abstract: A space heater for a motor vehicle contains a burner with a combustion air fan. A series resistor (24) is provided for partial load operation. This resistor (24) is arranged in a housing (2, 6) which surrounds the electric motor (4) driving the fan wheel (14) of the combustion air fan (1) and through which combustion air is passed for cooling the electric motor and the resistor (24). The resistor (24) is soldered to a printed circuit board (20) located radially on the housing, downstream of a combustion air passage opening (22) designed as a cutout in the printed circuit board. The printed circuit board preferably carries a sound-absorbing plate (34) with a cutout (36) in the area of the resistor.Type: GrantFiled: May 12, 1992Date of Patent: April 5, 1994Assignee: J. Patent number: 5172857Abstract: A motor vehicle auxiliary heater annular combustion air blower is disclosed having a housing defining a suction side of the blower and a delivery side of the blower. The housing also defines a mounting bore which extends substantially perpendicular to the bypass channel. A rotary slide valve is provided in the form of a cylindrical pin member which is rotatable within said mounting bore and includes a surface before variable throttling of said bypass channel independence upon the rotational position of said rotary slide valve.Type: GrantFiled: March 16, 1990Date of Patent: December 22, 1992Assignee: J. Patent number: 5097813Abstract: A heating device for pre-heating liquid fuel, especially diesel fuel and for heating devices of a low heating performance which are independent from a motor have a heating performance which is suitable for mounting into vehicles, which are driven by the liquid fuel. The pre-heating is effected by a transmission of heat of the exhaust gas to the fuel of the heating device, the fuel being lead through a continuous tubular wrapping in one layer or through a hollow cylinder formed or positioned around the exhaust pipe. This wrapping or hollow cylinder is part of the fuel main from the fuel tank to the fuel supply pump of the heating device. A pre-heating of the content of the tank is effected by the return of the pre-heated, but not burnt fuel through a fuel return main back into the tank. A heat transmitting jacket is advantageously disposed between the wrapping, or a hollow cylinder and the exhaust gas pipe.Type: GrantFiled: November 21, 1990Date of Patent: March 24, 1992Assignee: J. EberspacherInventors: Peter Reiser, Fritz Mohring, Adolf Schodt

Patent number: 5060855Abstract: An arrangement for space heaters for motor vehicles, which are fired with liquid fuel including, (depending on the type of burner used), a glow plug for either igniting a fuel/air mixture and/or vaporizing fuel. Only one type of glow plug, i.e., a glow plug designed for a 12-V electrical system, is normally employed. If the motor vehicle has a 24-V battery, a compensating resistor, which has the same electrical resistance as the glow plug, is connected in series with the glow plug. The amount of electrical energy converted into heat in the compensating resistor is practically equal to that transformed in the glow plug. The compensating resistor is integrated within the burner housing, in which case it is located in the flow path of the combustion air and is properly cooled by the air flowing past it, to provide a safe trouble free and space-saving arrangement.Type: GrantFiled: October 31, 1989Date of Patent: October 29, 1991Assignee: EberspacherInventors: Fritz Mohring, Martin Stoll
