  • Patent number: 6893329
Abstract: An abrasive tape is supplied to a tape head by a tape supply unit and taken up from the tape head by a tape take-up unit. The tape head presses the abrasive tape against a surface of an object under polish, which is rotated by a rotating unit. A tape head pressuring unit utilizes a voice coil motor, for example. Since the tape head pressuring unit generates a pressuring force for pressuring the tape head using the electromagnetic force, it is able to set a minute pressuring force by controlling a drive signal, and to obtain the fine adjustment of the pressuring force easily by controlling the electric signal. Therefore, it becomes possible to press the abrasive tape against the surface of the object under polish with a desired low pressure.

  • Patent number: 5739976
Abstract: As a method of increasing the storage capacity of a magnetic recording and reproducing apparatus for recording and reproducing information to and from a magnetic tape in a cartridge, there is a helical scan recording method in which the magnetic tape is diagonally wound around a drum which rotates a magnetic head. With an apparatus adapted to this method, the disposition of the cartridge and the take-up reel for taking up the magnetic tape on the same plane arises a necessity of considerably bending the magnetic tape at the drum portion and, accordingly, the magnetic tape is damaged. In order to prevent the damage of the foregoing type, the tape passage surface from the cartridge to the drum and the tape passage from the drum to the take-up reel are formed by an angle at which the direction in which the magnetic tape is moved is changed due to winding of the magnetic tape around the drum so that the magnetic tape is not bent excessively.

  • Patent number: 5708859
Abstract: The water drop removing apparatus for a camera lens assembly is arranged to automatically wipe off water drops or the like attached on the front face of the lens assembly to make field shooting in rainy or snowy weather easy. Injection nozzles consisting of a soft tube in the number of three, for example, are disposed on the top edge and each side edge in such a manner that they are mounted to be rocked around a rocking shaft by a motor or an air rocking mechanism. Each of the injection nozzles are connected with an electromagnetic valve, an air pump, or the like. The three injection valves are rocked fanwise in an order to inject air onto the face of the shooting window through the injection nozzles during the forward period of this rocking. The nozzles on each side is rocked from top to bottom. This causes the water drops attached on the front face of the shooting window to be automatically removed, so that there is no need to wipe off water drops with cloth or the like.

  • Patent number: 5497059
Abstract: A servo-mechanism control system calculates an operation value to be applied to a control object from a desired value of a control output and a detected control output of the control object, and drives the control object based on the calculated operation value so that the control output becomes equal to the desired value. The control system is less sensitive to the variation of characteristics of the control object and disturbances, and stable control is accomplished by a simple circuit arrangement. A mathematical model and its inverse function, which are based on the assumption that the control system is not subjected to the variation of characteristics of the control object and disturbances, are used to calculate a model-based control output.

  • Patent number: 5495371
Abstract: A magnetic recording and reproducing device and a magnetic tape library device are provided for properly recovering a function and issuing a warning when a failure of a magnetic head of the device takes place because of wear and dirt of the magnetic head. Further, a method for maintaining the magnetic head is provided. A wear sensor and a dirt sensor are prepared for sensing a wear amount of a state of dirt of the magnetic head. A head check controller operates to determine the wear amount of the magnetic head and the state of dirt based on the sensed result. In accordance with the determined result, the warning device is started for taking a precaution of preventing a head failure. As one aspect, the tape library device instructs to load the cleaning tape using a robot.

  • Patent number: 5371449
Abstract: In a servo system using a discrete signal relative to a position, a time delay and an error upon detecting a speed due to lack of positional information are eliminated to achieve a positioning to a target position in a short time. A pulse signal X.sub.P relative to a position is used to establish synchronization with an observer which is adjusted to match with an actual apparatus comprising a load, a motor and so on, and an estimated speed value or an estimated position value generated by the observer are used to determine an operating signal for the servo system.

  • Patent number: 5032938
Abstract: A magnetic head is provided in a tape transport path along which a magnetic tape is transported from one reel directly to another reel. In order to record or reproduce data to or from the magnetic tape with the magnetic head while the magnetic tape travels, it is necessary to stabilize a tape velocity at the magnetic head position to a desired velocity. The tape velocity at the magnetic head position is determined based on tape velocities at the respective reel positions, a tape path length from the head to one reel and a tape path length from the head to the other reel, and a closed loop control is effected by using the tape velocity at the magnetic head position to match the tape velocity to a desired velocity.

  • Patent number: 4786992
Abstract: The invention relates to a tape transport mechanism in which two reels are respectively driven by different motors, thereby transporting a magnetic tape from one reel to another reel by passing through the portion of a read/write head without any variation in tension. At the initial stage to transport the magnetic tape, an acceleration time from a stop state of the tape until a tape speed reaches a reference speed and an average tension deviation to be applied to the magnetic tape during this time are obtained. Correction values to correct variations in run characteristics of two reel drive systems are calculated by use of the acceleration time and the average tension deviation. Upon next and the subsequent magnetic tape transport, currents to be supplied to the motors to drive two reels are controlled by use of the drive current command values corrected by those correction values.

  • Patent number: 4525654
Abstract: A magnetic tape in a reel-to-reel magnetic apparatus is transported directly from a supply reel to a take-up reel without a mechanical buffer or a vacuum column buffer.Separate drive motors are coupled to the respective reels and driven by predetermined target signals.Tape roll radii on the respective reels are determined from the amount of tape movement, that is, rotation angles of the reels and a known tape thickness, and reel moments are determined from the tape roll radii to determine a total amount of tape wound on the reels, that is, a reel status amount.During the tape transport, the tape roll radii and the reel moments change from time to time. Operation band widths or dynamic responses of the reel drive systems are equalized in accordance with the change of the tape roll radii and the reel moments so that the reel drive systems are cooperatively controlled.
