  • Patent number: 5729623
Abstract: A bill-recognition apparatus includes a neural network having a learning capability and performs high-efficiency pattern recognition of seven kinds of U.S. dollar bills. Pattern image data optically inputted through a sensor is compressed using plurality of column masks, and then a plurality of values representative of images (slab values) are determined. The image data is divided into a large number of strip-shaped segments, and some of theses segments are masked with column areas of masks. The values representative of images compressed through column masks are not influenced by a slight inclination of the pattern image during the reading operation. These values representative of images are inputted to a separation processing unit (neural network). From these values, the separation processing unit calculates separation values corresponding to respective decision patterns associated with pattern images, using weights which have been adjusted to optimum values for respective decision patterns.

  • Patent number: 5355278
Abstract: A portable computer includes a housing and a display unit. The display unit is attached to the housing to be movable between a closed position and an opened position. The portable unit may also include a keyboard which can be covered by the display when the display is in the closed position. A circuit board is proximate to the bottom wall of the housing. A shield plate for magnetically shielding the circuit board is disposed inside the housing proximate to the circuit board and can be between the circuit board and the keyboard if a keyboard is provided. At least one supporting member extends from the bottom face of the shielding plate and abuts the circuit board to prevent the keyboard unit, if one is provided, from bending toward the circuit board. The shield plate may include an edge which is supported on the housing. The portable computer may also include bosses positioned between the bottom wall of the housing and the circuit board.

  • Patent number: 5331508
Abstract: A portable computer includes a housing and a keyboard unit mounted on the housing. A display unit is mounted on the housing to be movable between a closed position wherein the keyboard unit is covered by the display unit and a desired opened position wherein the keyboard is exposed. A latch mechanism for locking the display unit in the closed position is provided at the display unit. The mechanism includes a pair of latch hooks rockable between a latch position wherein each hook engages the housing and a release position wherein each hook is disengaged form the housing, and an interlocking member movable in interlock with the movement of the latch hooks. When a dial key attached to the display unit is turned on, the movement of the interlocking member is restricted by the key and the hooks are locked in the latch position.

A sliding member is slidably attached to each latch hook so as to be movable between a restricted position, wherein the sliding member is situated in the latch hole to restrict disengagement of the hook, and a retracted position, wherein the sliding member is retracted from the latch hole.

  • Patent number: 4831316
Abstract: A control system for an industrial robot having a hand which traces a pre-stored standard course defining its position and posture and which has a foresight function. The hand is provided with a tool and a work shape sensor, where the tool and the work shape sensor have a known spatial relationship. The foresight function is realized by a control system comprising temporary storing means for temporarily storing a future position and/or posture data of the tool calculated from a sensed position and/or posture data of the present sensor position. The stored data is output after a delayed time interval when it is compared with a pre-stored standard data. When the difference is small, the data is used to control the future position and/or posture of the hand. When the difference is great, an abnormality process is started.
