  • Patent number: 6270589
Abstract: A method of manufacturing a resin-coated aluminum alloy sheet for drawn and ironed cans, which coated sheet can be subsequently formed into a drawn and ironed can without its wall breaking, and having substantial strength, the can-forming process including a bending and bending back operation at a die shoulder rounded portion of small radius, and a subsequent dry ironing operation. The coated sheet is formed by homogenization heat treating an aluminum alloy ingot containing essentially 0.5 to 2.0 wt % of Mn, 0.2 to 2.0 wt % of Mg, 0.05 to 0.4 wt % of Si and not more than 0.7 wt % of Fe, wherein (Si+Fe)≦0.9 wt %, and subjecting the aluminum alloy ingot to hot rolling to obtain an aluminum alloy sheet, followed by continuous annealing, cold rolling, and surface treatment, heating the resultant sheet, and then coating both surfaces of the sheet with a thermoplastic resin at a predetermined temperature, and immediately quenching the sheet.

  • Patent number: 6267826
Abstract: A method of manufacturing a resin-coated aluminum alloy sheet for drawn and ironed cans, which can be formed into a drawn and ironed can free from its wall breaking and having enough strength as a can, when it is formed through a composite forming process, the process including a bending and bending back operation at a die shoulder rounded portion of a small shoulder radius and a subsequent ironing operation, under dry condition; which comprises the steps of homogenization heat treating an aluminum alloy ingot containing essentially 0.5 to 2.0 wt % of Mn, 0.2 to 2.0 wt % of Mg, 0.05 to 0.4 wt % of Si and not more than 0.7 wt % of Fe as inevitable impurities, wherein (Si+Fe)≦0.

  • Patent number: 6238783
Abstract: A thermoplastic resin coated aluminum alloy sheet has excellent processing adhesion and high adhesion after retort processing such that laminated thermoplastic resin layers do not peel off even when the alloy sheet is subjected to severe processing such as stretching after deep drawing and furthermore, ironing. A production method and a production apparatus for the alloy sheet are also described. A treatment by an alkaline solution and a treatment by an acidic solution are sequentially applied to bring the surface of an aluminum alloy sheet into a specific surface state and then electrolytic chromic acid treatment is carried out by a known method so as to laminate a thermoplastic resin to an aluminum alloy sheet having a two-layered film which comprises metallic chromium as the lower layer and a chromium hydrate as the upper layer and has a specific surface condition.

  • Patent number: 5374488
Abstract: A method for producing a tin free steel having double layers consisting of a lower layer of flatly deposited metallic chromium and an upper layer of insoluble hydrated chromium oxide which is characterized by a dissolution of soluble hydrated chromium oxide after the formation of three layers consisting of a bottom layer of metallic chromium, a middle layer of insoluble hydrated chromium oxide and an upper layer of soluble hydrated chromium oxide on a steel base by using a chromic acid electrolyte with a small amount of fluoride compound. By using this tin free steel, a welded can body can be produced at high speed without the removal of the plated layer in the welded part because this tin free steel has an excellent weldability.

  • Patent number: 5265319
Abstract: A method for making a tin-coated steel sheet useful in manufacture of drawn and ironed cans eliminates the annealing step used in other manufacturing processes. The steel sheet comprises a steel slab having specified trace amounts of carbon, silicon, manganese, sulphur, aluminum, nitrogen and phosphorus, and has excellent formability and corrosion resistance.

  • Patent number: 4455355
Abstract: Tin-free steel having a first layer of metallic chromium on a steel base and a second layer of hydrated chromium oxide on the first layer, in which the atomic ratio of sulfur and the atomic ratio of fluorine to the sum of chromium, oxygen, sulfur and fluorine in the second layer are respectively not greater than 2.5 atomic percent and not greater than 10 atomic percent. This tin-free steel can be used for a nylon-adhered can body to be subjected to a hot-packing or retort treatment, since it has excellent lacquer adhesion after aging in hot water and under retort conditions.
