  • Patent number: 8294353
Abstract: Embodiments of a lighting apparatus comprise a barrier coating with multiple layers. Each layer comprises metal oxide particles such as gamma alumina particles and alpha alumina particles. In one embodiment, the barrier coating comprises a first layer that reduces mercury depletion and a second layer that improves opacity.

  • Publication number: 20090128000
Abstract: A lamp having improved insect attraction is provided. The lamp has a light-transmissive envelope being substantially free of cerium. The lamp also has a phosphor layer comprising at least one phosphor having an emission band in the UVA light region for attracting insects. The at least one phosphor of the phosphor layer desirably has an emission spectrum in the UVA region that sufficiently matches an insect's eye sensitivity curve. For instance, the at least one phosphor can have an emission band in the UVA wavelength range of 320 to 400 nm, wherein said emission band has a maximum between 325 to 365 nm.
