  • Patent number: 7178464
Abstract: A track mounted system for closing rail car doors that enables the simultaneous closing of multiple car doors. After hopper car contents such as aggregate or coal are unloaded, the doors are closed in pairs by semi-automated door closing arms that are positioned on the track and are operated by hydraulic cylinders, pneumatic cylinders, or electric motors. The closing arms are configured in specific shapes to adapt to a variety of hopper door configurations. The closing arms may be added in pairs depending on the number of doors. The door closer can be sequenced to accommodate frontward or rearward facing doors. Hydraulic cylinders with a differential bell crank can be used to activate the closer arm assemblies. Closer arms can be mounted side by side on the inside or outside of the track or separately inside and outside of the track.

  • Publication number: 20050138373
Abstract: A customized graphical user interface and method, system, and computer program product for providing the graphical user interface and for automating computer maintenance, security, and communication functions is provided. In one embodiment, the data processing system receives user login information and retrieves a user profile. Based on the user profile, a customized user interface is presented to the user. Only applications and information needed by the user to perform an enterprise defined function are presented to the user in the user interface, thereby eliminating the need for human input in these automated areas, thereby freeing an inexperienced user from wasting time trying to find applications and data needed to perform the user's work function. Furthermore, computer maintenance, communications, and security functions are performed with minimal user interaction, if any, further increasing the efficiency of the user in performing work functions and decreasing the training requirements for the user.

  • Patent number: 6886473
Abstract: A rail car door closer is provided and includes a movable base having a rotatable member rotationally disposed thereon. The movable base is coupled to a drive system configured to translate the movable base along a rail or a track disposed adjacent a railroad track rail. A device is also provided to permit securement of the rotatable member in a substantially upright position. When the rotatable member is in the substantially upright position, it is positioned vertically to contact an open rail car door and, upon movement of the movable base to a position adjacent and beneath the open rail car door, the rotatable member contacts the open rail car door and subsequently moves the open rail car door in correspondence with a movement of the movable base.

  • Patent number: 6843483
Abstract: A seal ring for an orifice plate includes a metal annular body having an outer peripheral edge and an inner peripheral edge. A first sealing element retainer is integrally formed with and extends from a first side of the body. A second sealing element retainer is integrally formed with and extends from a second side of the body. An annular first sealing element engages the first sealing element retainer on the first side of the body. An annular second sealing element engages the second sealing element retainer on the second side of the body. The first sealing element and the second sealing element leave the outer peripheral edge of the body exposed to facilitate metal on metal contact between a carrier of an orifice fitting and the outer peripheral edge. The first sealing element and the second sealing element extend past the inner peripheral edge to form an orifice plate receiving groove.

  • Patent number: 6838189
Abstract: Magnetic recording media exhibiting high SNR and high thermal stability are produced by sputter depositing a magnetic alloy overlying a non-magnetic substrate, e.g., on an underlayer, heating to eliminate thermally unstable small grains thereby increasing the average grain size of the magnetic alloy layer but narrowing the grain size distribution, depositing a layer comprising a non-ferromagnetic element, and then heating to diffuse the non-ferromagnetic element into the grain boundaries of the heat treated magnetic alloy layer. Embodiments include heating to diffuse the non-ferromagnetic element leaving a layer comprising the non-ferromagnetic element, at a thickness up to about 3?, on the magnetic alloy layer, with the amount of the non-ferromagnetic element diffused into the grain boundaries of the magnetic alloy layer gradually decreasing from the upper surface of the magnetic alloy layer toward the underlayer.

  • Patent number: 6589676
Abstract: Corrosion resistant magnetic thin film media are fabricated using a CoCr magnetic layer having a stabilized protective chromium oxide film thereon. Stabilization of the protective chromium oxide film is achieved by incorporating a stabilizing element, such as Mo, V, Mn, Nb, Ni or Si, in the magnetic layer, thereby enabling elimination of the protective overcoat, e.g., C-containing protective overcoat, or forming the protective overcoat at a significantly low thickness of less than about 20 Å, e.g., up to about 1 Å. Embodiments include forming a magnetic layer comprising Co and Cr on an underlayer, and then forming a thin magnetic layer containing Co and Cr with the chromium oxide stabilizing element thereon. Embodiments further include introducing the chromium oxide stabilizing element by diffusion or ion implantation into a sputter deposited Co—Cr magnetic alloy layer.
