  • Patent number: 6338399
Abstract: An energy absorption device is disclosed for use both as in-line and horizontal life line shock or energy absorbers for fall arrest systems. The device includes a sleeve through which a bolt head is drawn. The bolt head compresses from the interior surface of the sleeve and thus absorbs energy as the device is stretched during a fall.

  • Patent number: 6161264
Abstract: A safety hook that includes a hook portion having a hook body with a shank portion, a nose portion and a mouth between the shank and the nose portion, a gate having a closure and at least one web portion along a plane is mounted on the hook body. The web portion of the gate includes a protrusion that extends away from the plane of the web portion and towards the mouth of the hook. A locking element with at least one wall portion that has a slot adapted for receiving the protrusion of the gate is mounted against the shank of the hook body. The wall portion will preferably be mounted between the web and the shank of the hook so that the locking element is movable from a first position, where the wall portion impedes motion of the protrusion on the web portion of the gate, and a second position where the slot receives the protrusion on the web portion, allowing opening of the gate, so that the gate can move to provide access to the mouth of the hook.

  • Patent number: 5458214
Abstract: A shock absorbing device for a generally horizonal lifeline wherein one end of the lifeline is mounted at fixed location, the other end of the lifeline is connected to one end of the shock absorbing device, one end of a turnbuckle is connected to the other end of the shock absorbing device and the other end of the turnbuckle is mounted at a fixed location. The shock absorbing device has a frangible bolt that breaks when a predetermined amount of force is applied thereto, which force is then absorbed by shock absorbing device. Also, shock absorbing devices are used to connect electric power cables to spaced apart supports.

  • Patent number: 5415446
Abstract: Apparatus and method for securing an anchor strap in a relatively fixed position at a location which is spaced a substantial distance from a fixed surface wherein the anchor strap has a relatively flexible intermediate portion, a relatively rigid one end portion having an anchor ring secured thereto and a closed loop at the other end portion and wherein an operating tool mounted on the end of an extensible handle is used to pass the relatively rigid one end portion over a fixed support and then pull the relatively rigid one end portion through the closed loop to secure the anchor strap on the fixed support and wherein another operating tool mounted on the end of the extensible handle is used to connect or disconnect a snap hook, having a lifeline attached thereto, to or from the anchor ring. In another embodiment, a portion of the relatively flexible intermediate portion extending from the relatively rigid one end portion is provided with stitching to add rigidity thereto.
