Publication number: 20180017838Abstract: To maximize the critical angle, ?c, and the reflectance, R, in total internal reflection reflective image displays, the difference in the refractive indices between the surface of the transparent front sheet and the liquid medium comprising of electrophoretically mobile particles must be maximized. High index optical glasses may be used to fabricate the front sheet but are costly and difficult to manufacture with fine structural features. Polymers may be used to fabricate the transparent front sheet as they are cheaper and simpler to process into desired structures but typically have low indices of refraction. Polymers comprising of dispersed high refractive index particles may be used to increase the refractive index of the transparent front sheet. The polymers may be formed from UV-curable liquid monomers.Type: ApplicationFiled: December 21, 2015Publication date: January 18, 2018Inventor: Gary E. THOMAS

Publication number: 20090033604Abstract: In one embodiment, a hybrid display that may include a first light emitter of a first type and a second light emitter of a second type that define first and second addressable subpixels of a hybrid pixel. The first and second light emitters may be coupled to a support and provided with drive means for emitting light. The hybrid subpixels may be arranged in a variety of formats to provide a desired emission of light from the hybrid pixel. The support may be flexible to provide a flexible hybrid display. A dummy subpixel may be provided for spacing or to allow for transmission of light from another light emitter and light guides may be provided for guiding light to the dummy subpixel.Type: ApplicationFiled: August 2, 2007Publication date: February 5, 2009Applicant: NANOLUMENS AQUISITION, INC.Inventors: Aris K. Patent number: 6437510Abstract: A crossed-field device such as a crossed-field amplifier or magnetron has a cathode body portion and an anode which cooperates with a crossed magnetic field to maintain emitted electrons on cycloidal paths and amplify an input signal or develop a microwave or millimeter wave output signal in an interaction space. The device is switched to shut down between working cycles, and delayed and secondary emissions are reduced to allow low noise operation and reduce multipactor for dependable operation at lower magnetic field strengths. Ceramic windows cover the output transformer (and input transformer in an amplifier device), and at least one window is grooved to reduce its secondary electron yield while maintaining its rf aperture. In addition, one or more walls within the device are physically structured or chemically treated or arranged to further address multipactor, allowing operation at reduced magnetic field strengths.Type: GrantFiled: December 6, 1999Date of Patent: August 20, 2002Assignee: Communications & Power Industries, Inc.Inventors: Gary E. Patent number: 5109848Abstract: The present invention provides an electrotherapeutic apparatus that produces a signal that, upon application to a patient, is exponential in character. The signal includes a relatively low-frequency, constant amplitude, periodic-exponential signal for muscle stimulation. Further, the signal preferably includes a relatively high-frequency, periodic-exponential signal for sensory stimulation.Type: GrantFiled: May 22, 1989Date of Patent: May 5, 1992Assignee: PhysioDynamics, Inc.Inventors: Gary E. Thomas, Michael W. Fellinger

Patent number: 5109846Abstract: The present invention involves a method of treating a patient by providing a signal that is exponential in character to the patient. The signal, includes a relatively low-frequency, constant amplitude, periodic-exponential first component. Further, the signal preferably includes a relatively high-frequency, periodic-exponential second component. The present invention also includes a method and apparatus for non-invasively applying an electrical signal to a structure associated with the eye of the patient. The signal is provided to the structure associated with the eye in the preferred embodiment of the invention by positioning a device for conducting the electrical signal at a point on the exterior of the patient that is substantially interior to the bone structure defining the eye socket. Preferably, the electrical signal is shaped such that an electrical charge is imparted to one or more structures associated with the eye.Type: GrantFiled: November 5, 1990Date of Patent: May 5, 1992Assignee: PhysioDynamics, Inc.Inventor: Gary E. Patent number: 4868373Abstract: Apparatus for transferring data and other information between a data processing unit and a rectangular memory card which includes an optically readable data memory unit having a succession of substantially concentric data storage tracks thereon, the card also including at least one microelectronic component which stores further information. Such component is connected to connection points on the surface of the card. Data is read from the tracks of the memory unit by optical scanning during rotation of the card about the axis of symmetry of the memory unit, and information is transferred between the microelectronic component and the data processing unit by an information transfer unit which is coupled to the connection points on the card and to the data processing unit.Type: GrantFiled: February 27, 1986Date of Patent: September 19, 1989Assignee: U.S. Philips CorporationInventors: Willem G. Patent number: 4680503Abstract: The glass composition in accordance with the invention is characterized by the absence of alkali metal oxides and by the presence of at least 10% by weight of barium oxide. The glass composition in accordance with the invention has favorable working properties (melting temperature below 1500.degree. C., working range in excess of 200 Celsius degrees, it is very corrosion resistant (also in a strong electric field), it is resistant to metal vapors including mercury vapor, it does not attack a phosphor and it is not subject to blackening. The glass composition in accordance with the invention is extremely suitable for use in fluorescent lamps (TL-, SL- and PL-lamps) and in projection-television face plates.Type: GrantFiled: October 8, 1985Date of Patent: July 14, 1987Assignee: U.S. Philips CorporationInventors: Gijsbertus A. Patent number: 4427524Abstract: Such a system comprises in an envelope 1 a flat cathode 2 from the material to be sputtered and a substantially circular anode situated coaxially with respect to said cathode. Behind the cathode, magnetic means 13 are provided to generate at least one closed tunnel of field lines 14 over a part of the cathode surface (a so-called electron trap). Between the anode 3 and the edge 8 of the cathode is present according to the invention a coaxial, substantially cylindrical auxiliary electrode 15. From the center of the cathode a rod-shaped auxiliary electrode 16 moreover extends axially. Said auxiliary electrodes 15 and 16 modify the electric field in such a manner that the electrons which are not captured in the tunnel of magnetic field lines are directed substantially towards the anode 3. The distance from the rod-shaped electrode 16 to the substrate 7 must be chosen to be comparatively small. By using the invention the substrate is less heated and not so much damaged by electron bombardment.Type: GrantFiled: May 6, 1983Date of Patent: January 24, 1984Assignee: U.S. Philips CorporationInventors: Jacobus E.
