  • Patent number: 11971056
Abstract: A head unit device for controlling motion of an object includes a chamber filled with a shear thickening fluid (STF) and a piston. The piston is housed within the chamber and exerts pressure against the STF from a force applied to the piston from the object. The STF is configured to have a decreasing viscosity in response to a first range of shear rates and an increasing viscosity in response to a second range of shear rates. The piston includes at least one piston bypass between opposite sides of the piston that controls flow of the STF between the opposite sides of the piston to selectively react with a shear threshold effect of the first range of shear rates or the second range of shear rates.

  • Patent number: 5574104
Abstract: The present invention relates to electrostatic dissipative polymeric compositions comprising a polyether polyurethane which can be blended with one or more base polymers. In some applications, the polyurethane is useful without further blending. Further, the polyurethane blends can be blended with glass beads or glass fibers which have a synergist effect when combined with the electrostatic dissipative agent.

  • Patent number: 5032627
Abstract: An in situ polymerized thermplastic resin incorporating hollow glass spheres, which are incorporated during polymerization of the resin, and a method of making a concentrate of hollow glass spheres dispersed in a thermoplastic resin with minimal sphere fracture by adding the spheres during polymerization of the resin.

  • Patent number: 4029458
Abstract: An extrusion die having a linearly movable mandrel that controls the thickness of the extrudate as it emanates from the die head. A piston within the die head is made part of the mandrel to control the position of the mandrel's edge relative to the die's outlet opening, with sensing means in the die assembly and being operative to provide a signal indicative of the relative position of such mandrel to the die head.
