  • Patent number: 6086760
Abstract: An ultraviolet sterilizer assembly for use in fish tanks having a vertically oriented tubular housing that forms a sterilizer chamber therein. A top cap and a bottom cap close the respective open ends of the tubular housing. A vertically oriented elongated ultraviolet lamp is positioned in the sterilizer chamber of the tubular housing. A pair of inner tubular members extend substantially the length of the tubular housing and they are mounted in close proximity to the ultraviolet lamp. The bottom ends of the inner tubular members are joined by a tubular connector. The top cap has manifold housing portion having an inlet passageway connected to the top end of one of the inner tubular members and an outlet passageway connected to the top end of the other tubular member.

  • Patent number: 5705057
Abstract: A fluidized bed biological filtration assembly for use with fish tanks and the assembly has a vertically oriented tubular housing with an elongated upper inner tubular member centrally positioned therein. A top cap covers the top end of the tubular housing and it has a contaminated water inlet port and a filtered water port. The inlet port is in communication with the top end of the inner tubular member and the outlet port is in communication with the filtering chamber formed by the interior of the tubular housing. An inverted cone shaped bottom cap is secured to the bottom end of the tubular housing and its interior has a lower inner tubular member extending upwardly and connected to the bottom of the upper inner tubular member. A plurality of radially extending horizontal slots in the bottom end of the lower inner tubular member allow contaminated water to exit therefrom and pass upwardly through filtering particulate in the bottom of the housing.

  • Patent number: 5527455
Abstract: A fluidized bed biological filter system for fish tanks having a housing having a top wall, a bottom wall, and surrounding side walls that form a water filtering chamber. An inner tubular member extends upwardly from the bottom wall a predetermined height and it has an inlet port in its bottom end that is connected to a pump. An outer tubular member has a closed top wall and also a diameter that is greater than that of the inner tubular member. The outer tubular member is telescopically mounted on the inner tubular member so that both of their bottom ends are surrounded by filtering particulate in the bottom of said housing. The top end of the outer tubular member has a weight chamber into which various amounts of weights may be added depending on the power of the pump and the type of filtering particulate material used.

  • Patent number: 5453183
Abstract: A fluidized bed biological filter system for fish tanks having a primary container structure for receiving particulate material and a secondary container structure for receiving contaminated water from a fish tank. The front and rear walls of the primary container structure converge downwardly toward each other to form an acute angle. The rear wall of the primary container structure incorporates a manifold having an inlet port at its top end and an outlet port adjacent the bottom of the primary container structure. The outlet end of the manifold is linear in shape and extends between the laterally spaced side walls of the primary container structure. Particulate material having a specific gravity greater than water is placed in the bottom of the primary container structure. The contaminated water from a fish tank is first pumped into the secondary container structure and a pump therein pumps the contaminated water into the inlet port of the manifold.

  • Patent number: 5067438
Abstract: A fish aquarium having structure that produces an improved display for fish and other objects contained therein. The front wall is formed of a transparent material and it has a vertically oriented lower section, a vertically oriented upper section and and angularly oriented central section that connects the upper and lower sections that are laterally offset a predetermined distance from each other. The angularly oriented central section along with the water in the aquarium produces an optical illusion that the material and objects supported in the bottom of the aquarium have a front to rear upwardly oriented appearance. A hermetically sealed elongated light housing is mounted inside the aquarium adjacent the intersection of its top wall and the upper section of its front wall. The florescent lamp in the light housing directs all of its light only in the downward and rearwardly direction which prevents the production of a glare off the water that normally strikes the eyes of a person peering into the aquarium.
