  • Publication number: 20130266700
Abstract: Disclosed are methods of manufacturing powdered nutritional products, including powdered infant formulas and powdered adult nutritional products, using extrusion. The methods include utilizing ultrasonic energy in the extruder during manufacturing. The application of ultrasonic energy to the extruder allows the fat globules present in raw materials to be effectively emulsified by hydrated protein present in the feed stream such that the resulting powdered extruded product has a low free fat level, is less susceptible to oxidation and rancidity, and can be reconstituted without substantial fat separation.
    Type: Application
    Filed: June 14, 2011
    Publication date: October 10, 2013
    Applicant: ABBOTT LABORATORIES
Inventors: Terrence B. Mazer, Gary M. Gordon
  • Patent number: 8409344
Abstract: Cement compositions and methods for making cement compositions are provided. The cement compositions can comprise at least one oxide having a particle size of less than about 600 nm. The methods for making cement may include: providing a mixture of compounds containing the required calcium, silicon, aluminum, and iron to provide at least one of tricalcium silicate, dicalcium silicate, tricalcium aluminate, tetracalcium aluminoferrite, other calcium silicates, aluminates, ferrites, and silicates or combinations thereof; adding a fuel source and an oxidizer to the mixture of compounds; and heating the mixture of compounds, the fuel source, and the oxidizer such that the mixture of compounds, the fuel source, and the oxidizer ignite to form the at least one tricalcium silicate, dicalcium silicate, tricalcium aluminate, and tetracalcium aluminoferrite, or combinations thereof.
