  • Patent number: 5689245
Abstract: An electronic device for use as a communications terminal including means for determining a location of the electronic device, means for storing that location in the electronic device, means for receiving a wide-area broadcast, and means for executing location-specific instructions contained within the wide-area broadcast, responsive to the stored location. The invention further comprises a method for delivering a data channel signal having a plurality of location-dependent instructions, from a transmitter to a plurality of receiving units. The method comprises the step of transmitting the data channel signal to the plurality of receiving units. Once received by a particular receiving unit, the particular receiving unit identifies and executes location-dependent instructions within the data channel signal which correlate with the location of the particular receiving unit as stored in that receiving unit.

  • Patent number: 5455823
Abstract: An integrated communications terminal including a selectable channel demodulator and decoder, a time-division-multiplexed (TDM) channel demodulator and decoder, a data processor and controller, an audio decompressor, a D/A converter, and a data coder and modulator. The terminal is used with a mobile station having a message display, an input device, RF electronics, and an optional transmitter. The selectable channel demodulator outputs a selectable intermediate-frequency signal as in-phase and quadrature-phase signals for decoding by the selectable channel decoder. The TDM channel demodulator generates a frequency offset signal and outputs in-phase and quadrature-phase TDM signals for decoding by the TDM channel decoder as a TDM-data signal.

  • Patent number: 5303393
Abstract: A radio response system including a broadcast station, a satellite relay, a processing center, and a plurality of user terminals. Each user terminal has a broadcast receiver, a communications interface device, a controller and a data transmitter. The broadcast station broadcasts a program signal. The broadcast receiver receives the program signal. The communications interface device communicates the program signal to a user. The controller generates a user-data signal from identification information transmitted in connection with the program signal and/or timing, location and frequency information needed for identifying the program signal, and a user-input signal generated in response to the program signal. The data transmitter transmits the user-data signal at a carrier frequency as a transmitted-data signal. The satellite relays the user-data signal to the processing center.
