Abstract: A system is for pushing information from a host system to a mobile data communication device upon sensing a triggering event. A redirector program operating at the host system enables a user to continuously redirect user-selected data items from the host system to the user's mobile data communication device upon detecting that one or more user-defined triggering events has occurred. The redirector program operates in connection with event generating applications and repackaging systems at the host system to configure and detect particular user-defined events, and to repackage the user-selected data items in an electronic wrapper prior to pushing the data items to the mobile device.

Abstract: A system and method of redirecting messages between a mail system and a mobile communications device, upon determining an occurrence of a trigger event that is configured to initiate redirection of messages at the mail system with respect to the user, the system sets a redirection flag associated with the user. Upon detecting arrival of a new message at the mail system for the user, the system determines whether the redirection flag associated with the user is set and if the redirection flag is set, causes an instance of the new message to be packaged for transmission to the mobile communications device associated with the user.

Abstract: A mobile station receives, from a server, a resource request relating to a pending delivery to the mobile station of a data item, the resource request including an instruction for the mobile station to acquire a network resource to enable delivery of the data item over a wireless network. The mobile station acquires, in response to the instruction, the network resource. In response to acquiring the network resource, the mobile station sends, to the server, a request to cause delivery of the data item from the server to the mobile station.

Abstract: A scheme for indicating via a network server a state of a message which has been redirected from a message server associated with the network server to a mobile communications device that is associated with a desktop system, wherein the desktop system is connected over a local area network to the network server and the message server. In one embodiment, the scheme comprises receiving at least one of a plurality of action signals from the mobile communications device, the plurality of action signals indicating that at least an action has been effectuated at the mobile communications device for a message redirected to the mobile communications device; and as a consequence of receiving the at least one of a plurality of action signals from the mobile communications device, causing a graphical change to a message status icon at the message server to indicate that the message has been acted upon at the mobile communications device.

Abstract: A technique for use in communicating data messages to a mobile device with use of a host service in a communication system is described. The host service connects with a service node for establishing and maintaining an IP connection between the host service and the service node. The host service receives a data message for the mobile device, and determines whether the mobile device is logged on. In response to determining that the mobile device is logged on, the host service sends the data message to the mobile device without aid of the service node. Otherwise, the host service creates an enable message which identifies the mobile device and includes a subset of the data message, and sends it to the service node over the IP connection for subsequent forwarding to the mobile device in a wireless network.

Abstract: A scheme for redirecting data to a mobile communication device capable of communicating via at least one short-range wireless communication path and at least one long-range wireless communication path. An embodiment comprises one or more of the following: a structure for setting a redirection flag configured for a user associated with a mobile communication device to enable continuous redirection of data items thereto from a host system until the redirection flag is reset to indicate cessation of redirection of the data items. Thereafter, the embodiment is operable to determine whether the mobile communication device is within coverage of a cell of a plurality of cells, each cell being operable with an associated short-range wireless communication path, whereby a data item is redirected accordingly.

Abstract: A system and method for pushing a service book to a mobile device is provided. A service book includes a plurality of fields relating to a host service. At least one mobile device is identified that is to receive the service book. Wireless propagation information is provided that identifies an address for the mobile device to receive the service book. The service book is transmitted over a wireless network using the address for the mobile device, and is received by the mobile device.

Abstract: A wireless router employing a technique to couple a plurality a host services or host systems and a plurality of wireless networks. A method to route data items between a plurality of mobile devices and a plurality of host systems through a common wireless router. A point-to-point communication connection is preferably established between a first host system and a common wireless router, a mobile network message at a mobile device is generated, the mobile network message is transmitted via a wireless network to the common wireless router which in turn routes a data item component of the mobile network message to the appropriate host service.

Abstract: A system and method for pushing information to a mobile device are disclosed herein. A triggering event is detected, and information relevant to the detected trigger event is determined. The information is located in one of a plurality of memory location channels, wherein the information is stored in the one of the plurality of memory location channels based on a category of the information matching a pre-defined category of the one of the plurality of memory location channels. When the information relevant to the detected triggering event comprises content information, a meta tag is inserted to the content information. The meta tag relates to display of specific one or more advertisements with the content information. The content information that includes the meta tag is transmitted to the mobile device.

Abstract: A device and a method of responding to a received interrupt event received by a communication device is provided. The method comprises: determining a current state of availability of a user associated with the device; determining whether a response action to the interrupt event is required based on a level of importance associated with the interrupt event and further based on the current state of availability; and providing notice of response actions which occurred during a previous state of unavailability, where the notice provides a link to initiate a response communication to the interrupt event. The current state of availability may be determined based on data associated with an operating application on the device. Also, providing the notice may occur upon a change of the current state of availability.

Abstract: A system and method for integrating voice and data operations into a single mobile device capable of simultaneously performing data and voice actions. The mobile device working in a network capable of exchanging both cell phone calls and data items to the mobile device. By wearing an earphone or an ear-bud device the user is capable of dealing with voice conversations while working with data centric information related to the current caller. By providing a data-centric device with voice capabilities there is a new range of features that allow incoming data events to trigger outgoing voice events.

Abstract: A system and method are provided for mobile stations for enhancing the ease of use of a mobile station. Through the system and method, a user may more easily view the phone number of a caller identification card. The user may be alerted when the user tries to send messages while out of GPRS coverage, or the mobile station may recognize extension numbers in address book user interface applications to assist with a dialing operation.

Abstract: A scheme for redirecting data items from a messaging host system to a user's mobile device using a redirector component disposed in a wide-area data network. In one embodiment, a method comprises one or more of the following: automatically detecting receipt of a new data item from the messaging host system for a user over the wide-area data network; based on filtering rules configured for the user, determining if the new data item is to be redirected to the user's mobile device over a wireless network; and upon determining that the new data item is to be redirected, processing at least a portion of the new data item for transmission thereof to the user's mobile device.

Abstract: A system and method for redirecting data from a host system (or messaging server) to one or more mobile data communication devices via a wireless packet data network is provided in which the wireless packet data network dynamically assigns addresses to the one or more mobile data communication devices on an as-needed basis. A redirector application operating at the host system is configured by each user to continuously redirect certain data to the wireless packet data network, as the data is received (or otherwise altered) at the host system. Two methods are provided for communicating the redirected data from the network to the mobile device. In a first method, the mobile device is configured to periodically contact a store-and-forward server within the wireless network, which, when contacted, assigns a network address to the mobile device and then transmits the stored, redirected data to the mobile device.

Abstract: A unified messaging system, method and user interface is provided for a handheld mobile communication device. The method may include the following steps: (a) receiving a notification signal at the wireless device via the wireless data channel indicating that the unified messaging system received and stored a voice mail message intended for a user of the wireless device; (b) transmitting a command signal from the wireless device to the unified messaging system via the wireless data channel, the command signal including a message retrieval command; (c) receiving via the wireless voice channel a voice call initiated by a voice mail system component of the unified messaging system in response to the message retrieval command transmitted from the wireless device; and (d) receiving the voice mail message from the unified messaging system via the wireless voice channel.

Abstract: A novel apparatus and method for changing the behavior of an electronic device is provided. In an embodiment, an electronic device includes the functionality of a cellular phone, a voice mail system and a calendar application. The device is configured to use the calendar application to determine whether to direct a phone call to the user or whether to instantly direct the call to voice mail.

Abstract: A wireless router employing a technique to couple a plurality a host services or host systems and a plurality of wireless networks. A method to route data items between a plurality of mobile devices and a plurality of host systems through a common wireless router. A point-to-point communication connection is preferably established between a first host system and a common wireless router, a mobile network message at a mobile device is generated, the mobile network message is transmitted via a wireless network to the common wireless router which in turn routes a data item component of the mobile network message to the appropriate host service.
