  • Publication number: 20190357457
Abstract: An apparatus for treating water in soil-less growing systems has a container having a cross-sectional area and a height, with a first access port for liquid at an upper end, and a second access port for liquid at a lower end, and a porous matrix filling the container, the matrix comprising a hydrophilic polymer mixed with rocks and natural minerals. Water drawn from a soil-less growing system, is urged into the container through one of the liquid access ports, causes the water to flow through the matrix in the container, the water in contact with the rocks and natural minerals in the matrix, leaching elements from the matrix, and causes the water to exit the container at the other of the liquid access ports, to flow back to the soil-less growing system.

  • Publication number: 20190352859
Abstract: A structure has a high-impact plastic polymer tile comprising interconnected individual cells, each having an outer wall of a vertical dimension forming a closed outer periphery, and a matrix filling the cells from a lowermost extremity of the walls of the cells, to level below an uppermost extremity of the internal walls of the cells, the matrix comprising material supporting plant growth. With the tile lying on a base surface, the individual cells of the tile constrain the matrix material from horizontal translation, and wherein the walls of the cells, extending above the level of the matrix in the cells, provide support for any wheeled vehicle without disturbing the matrix.

  • Publication number: 20180000018
Abstract: Aspects of the present invention include a modular growing panel system for attaching vegetation to a surface of a structure. In one aspects, the modular growing panel system includes a growing substrate with a plurality of layers formed into a tile that is rigid and self-supportive of vegetation being grown in the growing substrate and a binder attaching one or more of the tiles to each other and forming the modular growing panel system. In another aspect, the modular growing panel system includes a growing substrate with a plurality of layers formed into a tile that is rigid and self-supportive of vegetation being grown in the growing substrate and a framework for holding and attaching one or more tiles to the structure created from a upper channel and having a slot that corresponds to the depth of the tile and a lower channel and having a slot corresponding to the depth of the tile.

  • Publication number: 20170318754
Abstract: An all Natural growing medium is taught wherein all natural ingredients are incorporated and bound with an all natural latex rubber. The all natural ingredients can include bark, ground bark, Finland peat moss, biochar, coconut fiber and worm castings. In some embodiments the biochar is specially processed in a vacuum chamber to remove small particulates and open pores enabling the absorption and holding of water. The growing medium is then formed into grow plugs or mats.

  • Publication number: 20120278956
Abstract: Plant growth substrates that lack organic components, such as organic soil, peat or bark material. In certain aspects sponge-like matrix materials are provided that are porous, retains water and can be used to maintain plant growth. Matrix materials, for instance, can comprise an admixture of a hydrophilic polymer, such as a polyurethane, and an amorphous silica. Methods of growing and maintaining plants and plant parts in such materials are also provided.

  • Patent number: 4153380
Abstract: An emitter device for a drip type irrigation system. The emitter has an elongated body with a tapered portion at its lower end to facilitate easy insertion into the soil. The upper end of the emitter forms a small receiving chamber connectable to an opening. An adjustable valve means is interposed between the chamber and the opening so that the flow of water from a suitable supply source can be regulated. Outlet openings for the emitter are located near or within the tapered portion of the body so that emission is accomplished below ground level.
