  • Patent number: 7625963
Abstract: A polyurethane hot melt adhesive composition comprising an isocyanate, one or more polyols, one or more bituminous materials and optionally one or more thermoplastic materials. Another embodiment is directed to a method for bonding materials together which comprises applying the reactive hot melt adhesive composition in a liquid form to a first substrate, bringing a second substrate in contact with the composition applied to the first substrate, and subjecting the applied composition to conditions which will allow the composition to cool and cure to an irreversible solid form, said conditions comprising moisture. Still another aspect is directed to an article of manufacture comprising the adhesive.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: January 25, 2007
Date of Patent: December 1, 2009
Assignee: Henkel AG & Co. KGaA
Inventors: Yongxia Wang, Louis A. Moore, Gary Raykovitz

  • Patent number: 5685758
Abstract: A nonwoven disposable article is constructed using adhesive compositions containing 1 to 25% of a surfactant, which causes the adhesive composition to exhibit a contact angle of 90.degree. or less and a reduction in surface tension of less than or equal to about 35-40 dynes/cm, giving improved wicking capabilities to the nonwoven.

  • Patent number: 5356963
Abstract: A hot melt adhesive composition comprising 5 to 50% by weight hydroxypropyl cellulose, 5 to 40% by weight plasticizer of which up to 85% may be a water insoluble plasticizer; 20 to 70% by weight tackifying resin; 0 to 40% by weight polar wax; 0 to 30% by weight compatible polymer; and, 0 to 3% by weight stabilizer.

  • Patent number: 5342861
Abstract: A wetness indicating hot melt adhesive composition comprising:a) a graft copolymer ofi. about 40-80% by weight of vinyl monomer; andii. about 20-60% by weight of water-soluble polyalkylene oxide polymer having a molecular weight of about 3,000-20,000 and a polymerized ethylene oxide content of at least 50% by weight; andb) an effective amount of a wetness indicating agent.

  • Patent number: 5217798
Abstract: Nonwoven assemblies bonded with water dispersible or sensitive hot melt adhesives comprising 50-100 parts of a graft copolymer of about 40-85% of at least one vinyl monomer and about 15-60% of at least one water soluble polyalkylene oxide polymer, and about 0-50 parts by weight of tackifying resin. The compositions may also be employed as water sensitive binders in the manufacture of the nonwoven. Vinyl acetate is the preferred vinyl monomer whereas ethylene oxide homo- or copolymers are the preferred polyalkylene oxide. The use of tackifying resin is optional and may be undesirable for many of the applications.

  • Patent number: 5169889
Abstract: Hot melt adhesive compositions are prepared from 20 to 90% by weight of a linear polyester of 3-hydroxybutyric and 3-hydroxyvaleric acids containing 9 to 35% of the hydroxyvalerate component; 10 to 80% by weight of a polar tackifier having a Ring and Ball softening (as described by ASTM E-26) greater than about 60.degree. C.; 0 to 50% by weight of a plasticizer; 0 to 30% by weight of a wax diluent and 0-3% by weight of a stabilizer; 0-20% of a compatible polymer. By utilizing a naturally occurring, thermoplastic, biodegradable copolymer as the base polymer, these adhesives advance the state of the art of hot melt adhesives by alleviating the dependence on petroleum based materials and by allowing for the development of hot melt adhesives which either degrade naturally after coming in contact with the soil or which can be composted.
