  • Patent number: 6786541
Abstract: A ventilated vehicle seat includes an imperforate foam air plenum member located in a foam cushion top. The air plenum member is assembled from a molded box-like foam member and an integrally molded cover. The air plenum has an air port for application of positive or negative pressure. The cover has apertures for air to pass into or out of the air plenum member. One preferred embodiment of the air plenum member includes an integrally molded portion that is assembled into an air conduit for said air port. The cover can have various sizes that are larger than the box-like member and can have inner and outer surface conformations to suit various purposes.

  • Patent number: 6532100
Abstract: Solid state lasers that use non-linear optical crystals to generate frequency tripled or quadrupled output in the ultraviolet have low lifetimes due to damage to the face of the non-linear crystal through which the ultraviolet signal exits. To prevent this damage, the tripling or quadrupling crystal is provided within a controlled environment that is maintained substantially free from contaminants such as silicon-bearing and organic compounds. The tripling or quadrupling crystal is enclosed within a tubular chamber with windows on the ends of the tube that provide optical access to the entrance and exit faces of the tripling or quadrupling crystal. All heating elements and alignment elements for the crystal are outside of the chamber. Because the crystal is stored within the hermetically sealed chamber, contaminants are not available within the environment of the crystal that could interact with the energetic photons of the ultraviolet output of the frequency multiplied solid state laser.

  • Patent number: 6233920
Abstract: A contoured thrust reverser and lobed nozzle noise suppressor is meant for use with gas turbine engines that have conventional post-exit thrust reversers and that require only moderate levels of noise suppression. The contoured thrust reverser and lobed nozzle noise suppressor comprises a conventional tailpipe frame terminating in a lobed nozzle, and a conventional thrust reverser mechanism holding a pair of contoured blocker doors. In a deployed position, the blocker doors lie aft of the lobed nozzle, having been moved there by the thrust reverser mechanism. The blocker doors abut one another and form a fore-facing scoop, wherein any engine exhaust exiting the lobed nozzle is redirected towards the fore of the engine. In a stowed position, the blocker doors lie over the tailpipe frame and align and nestle together with the engine's cowling.

  • Patent number: 5884472
Abstract: A mixer/ejector suppressor is disclosed for reducing the noise level created by the exhaust flows in gas turbines. In the preferred embodiment, the suppressor comprises a mixing ring of alternating lobes attached to the engine's tailpipe; an ejector shroud mounted onto the mixing ring; and a plurality of arcuate gaps, between the mixing ring and ejector shroud, that permit ambient air to be entrained into the shroud. The preferred mixing ring has ten curved lobes of alternating designs. Five of the mixing lobes are shallow, with contours similar to those of mixing lobes in an earlier TSMEC version, disclosed in a related U.S. utility patent application, Ser. No. 08/729,571. The other five lobes are much longer, and they are designed to penetrate deeply into the engine's hot core flow. Together, the ten lobes rapidly mix (mostly at supersonic conditions) the engine exhaust flows with secondary ambient air inside the shroud.

  • Patent number: 5762397
Abstract: A wire attachment for a seat frame in which a clip having a bore for receiving a wire therethrough and a frame mounting portion is utilized to attach the wire to the frame. The mounting portion of the clip includes a pair of legs having reversed legs forming barbs which are inserted into an aperture into the seat frame with the barbs engaging the reverse or opposite surface of the frame from the wire. A wire is arranged with a bend adjacent to at least one clip to prevent longitudinal movement of the wire relative to the clip.
