Abstract: A safety closure for use on a container neck portion, providing an end wall and a side wall depending from the end wall. The side wall has at least one lug projecting therefrom near a lower end thereof, which is engageable with at least one lug-receiving recess provided in the container neck portion. A sealing plug depends from the end wall and is sealingly engageable with a dispensing orifice provided in the container neck portion. At least one spring member depends from the end wall and are resiliently engageable with the container neck portion to bias the safety closure away from the container neck portion.

Abstract: A two stage dispensing cap for a carbonated beverage container is described. The cap has a flip top which is hingedly connected to a collar wherein the collar is rotatable on the container. The cap, upon rotation of the collar, is first opened into a venting position wherein the flip top vents the pressurized contents of the container but remains locked partially closed. Continued rotation of the cap releases the locked flop top to allow the container to be fully opened. A set of cams on the container neck work in conjunction with annular beads to first allow partially opening of the flip top into the venting position and then allowing it to fully open.

Abstract: A child resistant cap including relatively thin threads which, when the cap is in a relaxed condition, are spaced from the bottle neck, said spacing permitting the cap to be squeezed inward at points on opposite sides of the cap so that the cap responds to the squeezing by expanding outward at points ninety degrees from the squeezing points so that stops on the cap at the cap expanding location will miss the stops normally engaged when in a relaxed condition, thereby permitting the cap to be removed from the bottle. The cap may also include a guide ring in the cap interior to guide the cap over the bottle neck to help ensure that the cap is centered on the bottle opening. The cap may include pressure pads on the cap skirt outside near the cap bottom showing the user where to press and stiffening the portion of the cap where pressure is to be applied. And, the cap may include a tamper indicating ring which will separate from the cap the first time the cap is removed from the bottle.

Abstract: A mold for forming a container is provided with an upper die, a lower die, a first semi-cylindrically shaped collar and a second semi-cylindrically shaped collar. The upper die includes a downwardly-depending central core portion which cooperates with a concentric annular lip portion and spaced outwardly from the central core portion defining a groove therebetween sized to provide a continuous neck finish on the container. The lower die is provided with a core-receiving pocket sized to receive the central core portion of the upper die. The first and second collars are disposed in abutting relation and are provided with mating surfaces having thread grooves to form a thread region of the container neck, the first and second collars being sandwiched between the upper and lower dies in a use condition.

Abstract: The present closure and container combination comprises a child resistant squeeze and turn closure having a tamper indicating band which is removed from the closure after the first removal of the closure from the container. The closure has dual squeeze pads located opposite one another on the outer wall of the closure. Formed at 90 degrees from the squeeze pads are two child resistant lugs which extend inwardly from the closure lower skirt wall. The child resistant lugs extend downwardly below the lowermost edge of the annular skirt of the closure. Frangible webs are positioned at 45 degrees from the external tabs and the squeeze pads and retain the tamper indicating band onto the closure side wall. A first and a second child resistant container lug contacts the closure lugs and are placed on the neck of the container above the tamper indicating bead. The child resistant feature of the closure needs to be overcome before the tamper indicating band is fractured from the closure.

Abstract: A closure is provided having concentric inner and outer spaced cylindrical shells attached at respective first distal ends thereof by a circular top wall. An arcuate groove is provided in an upper surface of the top wall integral with the inner cylindrical shell.

Abstract: The closure cap of a closure and container package for a pressurized liquid is designed with a sealing flange which depends from the cap top at an angle to a sealing location on the container wall so that an increase in container pressure will increase the sealing force of the flange against the container wall. A pressure relief passage is provided downstream of the sealing location.

Abstract: A threaded tamper indicating closure-container package provides an indication of initial opening by how far the closure threads onto the container neck. In the original package condition the bottom of the closure skirt is adjacent a shoulder on the container. After the package has been initially opened and the closure reapplied, the bottom of the closure skirt is noticeably above the container shoulder. A word message such as "opened" can also be exposed on the container neck between the shoulder and the bottom of the closure skirt when the closure is reapplied.

Abstract: A closure-container package is illustrated in which the closure is pressed-on to the container neck and threaded off the container neck. Either the container neck or the closure has a helical thread which engages axially extending ribs on the other of the container neck or closure to form indentations in the ribs which act as threads, teeth or a track for unthreading. A continuous or rotary seal is used between the container neck and the closure which does not require a sealing force from the threaded connection.

Abstract: A removal resistant closure cap for a container having a standard threaded neck is disclosed. The cap does not have a thread complementary to the container neck thread but has an inwardly projecting circumferential bead with an intersecting projection extending downwardly from the bead at the helix angle of the container neck thread. When the container neck is engaged by the cap with a threading rotation, the cap projection will engage the container neck thread, and the cap bead will snap over the container neck thread, permanently retaining in the cap on the container neck.

Abstract: A container closure assembly and method for providing same. The container has an access opening and a container rim surrounding the access opening. A plastic cap covers the access opening and includes an upper portion, a skirt depending from the upper portion and circumferentially covering the container rim, and a tamper ring depending from said skirt, wherein the tamper ring is preferably connected to the skirt by a plurality of tabs separated by open portions, whereby the tamper ring is disengaged from the skirt by twisting the cap and breaking the tabs. The tabs comprise a crystallized, brittle portion, whereby breaking the tabs is facilitated.

Abstract: A closure including a standard threaded cap having a tamper indicating band depending from the cap skirt by frangible webs. The tamper indicating band has an inwardly directed bead which cooperates with a flange on the container neck which allows the band to rotate with the cap but prevents the band from being removed past the container flange. Alternatively the tamper indicating band contains spaced ratchet teeth which engage ratchet teeth on the container neck to prevent further rotation. A rotary seal is provided between the cap and container neck which is effective for an axial length A greater than the sum of a distance B between the cap bead and the container flange when the cap is tightened or the axial movement of the cap in rotating the ratchet teeth into contact and the distance C which the frangible webs stretch before fracture. Thus the rotary seal prevents access to the product prior to breaking the tamper indicating band loose from the cap.
