  • Patent number: 4735759
Abstract: A hearing aid including a plug that is tailored to snugly fit into the auditory canal of the user's ear, and that has a preshaped component assembly embedded therein, the component assembly comprising shell-like members that are interconnected to each other and that have the electrical components of the hearing aid mounted therein, the members being prearranged to achieve a configuration generally similar to the shape of the plug and being secured in end-to-end position for mounting interiorly in a negative impression in a mold as formed from the user's auditory canal, the assembled members being embedded in the negative impression in the mold upon pouring of a quick setting plastic material into the negative impression, thereby permanently fixing the preshaped assembly in the plug that is formed as the quick setting plastic material hardens around the assembled preshaped members.

  • Patent number: 4532649
Abstract: A hearing aid having an earplug that is inserted wholly within the auditory canal of the ear of a user to leave the concha portion of the user's ear exposed for the collection of sound waves for transmission to a microphone as located in the outermost end of the ear plug; the component parts of the hearing aid being wholly contained within the ear plug, thereby avoiding the use of the conventional exposed tubing, wiring and behind-the-ear housing which normally contains the hearing aid controls therein, a cover member being pivotally mounted on the outer surface of the earplug for concealing the controls thereon and for effecting a smooth uninterrupted outer surface that is aesthetically pleasing as located in the user's ear, and a barrier being provided in the earplug for locating the sound tube of the hearing aid in an insulated chamber to insure fidelity of sound as transmitted to the auditory canal of the user.

  • Patent number: 4291203
Abstract: A hearing aid device including a microphone that is located in the auditory canal of the user's ear and that is retained in position therein by insertion into a molded ear plug that is received in the auditory canal, the microphone being completely embedded in the ear plug so that only a sound inlet portion thereof projects outwardly therefrom. With the microphone located in the auditory canal the concha portion of the user's ear functions in the usual manner as a sound collector for the microphone. A sound tube also extends through the ear plug for communication with the auditory canal of the user's ear and further communicates with a transducer that electronically translates the sound into electrical impulses that are amplified and retranslated into amplified sound for transmission through the sound tube, the interior of the sound tube being free and unobstructed to provide for fidelity of sound as transferred through the sound tube to the auditory canal.
