The network element may further include a redundant trunk group daemon, associated with the particular interface, to deactivate the particular interface and activate a backup interface in response to receiving notification of a link down event associated with the particular interface; where the connectivity fault manager is to activate the redundant trunk group daemon in response to detecting the connectivity fault; and where the redundant trunk group daemon is to deactivate the particular interface and activate a backup interface in response to being activated by the connectivity fault manager.
