  • Patent number: 9160959
Abstract: High-quality content reproduction is to be realized. A transmission clock is supplied from a sink (repeater) device to a source device via a clock signal line. The source device sends content data to the sink (repeater) device via a predetermined number of differential signal lines in synchronization with the transmission clock supplied from the sink (repeater) device. High-quality content reproduction can be performed in the sink (repeater) device, without the use of any additional lines other than the differential signal lines and the clock signal line. For example, upon receipt of a transmission clock supply request from the source device, the sink (repeater) device supplies the transmission clock to the source device.

  • Publication number: 20150289008
Abstract: The present invention relates to a communication system, a transmission device, a reception device, a communication method, a program, and a communication cable, whereby high-speed communication can be executed while maintaining compatibility. In the event that an HDMI® source 71 and an HDMI® sink 72 execute two-way IP communication using a CEC line 84 and a signal line 141, a switching control unit 121 controls a switch 133 to select a partial signal making up the differential signal from a conversion unit 131 at the time of transmitting data, and controls the switch 133 to select a partial signal making up a differential signal from a receiver 82 at the time of transmitting data, and in the case of executing two-way communication using the CEC line 84 alone, the switching control unit 121 controls the switch 133 to select the CEC signal from the HDMI® source 71 or receiver 82 with the switch 133. The present invention may be applied to HDMI®, for example.

  • Patent number: 9154831
Abstract: An external device may recognize, in the case of including a communication unit that executes communication via a communication path made up of a pair of differential transmission paths included in a transmission path, information relating to the communication unit thereof. A disk recorder transmits function information indicating that a communication unit (high-speed data line I/F 213) configured to execute communication with an external device via a communication path made up of a reserve line and an HPD line of an HDMI cable to a television receiver via a CEC line that is a control data line of the HDMI cable. The television receiver receives function information, whereby whether or not the disk recorder is an eHDMI-compatible device can be determined, and in the case of an eHDMI-compatible device, a compatible transmission format (application) can be recognized.

  • Publication number: 20150201146
Abstract: To increase the transmission bandwidth of video data and support new applications for inter-room transmission and the like. The present invention includes a first video data transmitting unit and a second transmitting unit. The second video data transmitting unit transmits to an external device video data encoded so as to be DC-free and capable of clock regeneration, via a pair of AC-coupled lines as a transmission path. Accordingly, it is possible to increase the transmission bandwidth of video data while improving signal quality and reducing power consumption. In addition, the present invention allows bi-directional transmission which makes it possible to support new applications for inter-room transmission and the like.

  • Publication number: 20150163001
Abstract: A video signal and an audio signal are TMDS transmitted from a source device to a sink device. Through a reserved line and a HPD line provided separately from a TMDS transmission line, an Ethernet™ signal is bidirectionally transmitted, and also, a SPDIF signal is transmitted from the sink device to the source device. The Ethernet™ signal bidirectionally transmitted between Ethernet™ transmitter/receiver circuits is differentially transmitted by an amplifier and is received by the amplifier. The SPDIF signal from a SPDIF transmitter circuit is common-mode transmitted from an adder and is received by the adder to be supplied to the SPDIF receiver circuit.

  • Patent number: 8862791
Abstract: An electronic device to determine a type of digital interface between a source device and a sink device. A control unit of the sink device may include a determining unit which determines whether or not the source device is connected to this sink device, and whether or not the digital interface of a data transmission unit of the source device is a HDMI standard or a new standard. When a data reception unit can handle both the HDMI standard and new standard, based on the determination result of the determining unit, a control unit may switch the operation of the data reception unit so as to perform an operation in accordance with the digital interface of the data transmission unit of the source device. A connector unit for connecting the devices which may operate using the digital interfaces of HDMI and the new standard can be shared.

  • Patent number: 8843679
Abstract: To enable signal transmission at a high data rate while securing backward compatibility. A source device 110 and a sink device 120 are connected by an HDMI cable 200. The source device 110 is compatible with both current HDMI and new HDMI. The number of differential signal channels for transmitting digital signals such as video data is three in the current HDMI, but is six in the new HDMI, for example. In a case where the cable 200 is compatible with the new HDMI, and the sink device 120 is compatible with the new HDMI, a control unit 113 of the source device 110 controls a data transmitting unit 112 to operate in a new HDMI operating mode. In a case where the control unit 113 determines that at least the sink device 120 is compatible only with the current HDMI, or at least the cable 200 is compatible with the current HDMI, the control unit 113 controls the data transmitting unit 112 to operate in a current HDMI operating mode.

  • Publication number: 20140205024
Abstract: Transmission of a high-definition video signal or the like that requires a wide transmission band is to be realized. A video signal is divided by frames to generate divisional video signals, and the respective divisional video signals are transmitted to an external device via transmission channels independent of one another. Transmission of a high-definition video signal or the like that requires a wider transmission band than the transmission band of one transmission channel can be realized in a preferred manner. For each frame, first information indicating the existence of the other divisional video signal to be combined therewith and second information for establishing synchronization with the other divisional video signal to be combined therewith are added to the divisional video signals to be transmitted by a data transmitting unit. In the external device, a reception video signal can be easily obtained by arranging the divisional video signals in the frame order.
