Abstract: The present invention comprises a system and method that modifies an email sender's email client or data files in order to enable automatic inclusion in an email message of an enabling device for voice, instant messaging or video communications. The sender's email client will thereafter by default effect this inclusion without requiring the sender to take any more steps than those required to send an ordinary email message. Upon receiving the email message, the recipient is presented with the included device, which provides the recipient an option to respond to the sender by voice, instant messaging or video. Upon choosing the option, the recipient will automatically download an applet or control to serve as a client for the requested mode of response.
