Abstract: An improved system and method for using a portion of an oxidized process gas stream resulting from the destruction or abatement of industrially generated pollutants such as Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs) and Hazardous Air Pollutants (HAPs) in a thermal oxidizer. This system and method produces steam and/or electric power using the heat of a portion of the oxidized gas stream without requiring any increase in the amount of auxiliary fuel that is normally used in the oxidizer. Further, although carbon dioxide (CO2) is generated in the oxidation of the pollutants using the oxidizer, the generation of steam and/or electric power from the oxidized gas stream is accomplished without the generation of any additional CO2.
