  • Patent number: 5964166
Abstract: A nozzle for the injection of solid fuel in dust form into a combustion chamber, to be installed in correspondence with the outlet of a burner coaxially to the longitudinal axis of the burner, comprising a stationary annular part divided into coal ducts of a circumferential width that decreases towards outlet section to form coal-dust-rich air streams, a central duct for a coal-dust-poor air stream sideways delimited by the coal ducts and having an outlet end, a central member that is axially mobile within the central duct, for varying the cross section of a central passage delimited by the stationary annular part at the outlet end. Air ducts for the coal-dust-poor air stream are formed between each pair of adjacent coal ducts in the stationary annular part communicating with the central duct and having a circumferential width increasing toward the outlet end.

  • Patent number: 5823764
Abstract: A low NOx burner comprising ducts for the primary (6), secondary (7) and tertiary air (14), arranged coaxially around its longitudinal axis, for supplying of the primary, secondary and tertiary air, respectively, to a combustion chamber (3), means for accumulation of the air (5), means to give vorticity to the primary, secondary and tertiary air (11, 15, 27) installed in the respective ducts, means for supply of fuel (23, 32, 43) arranged within said ducts to inject the fuel into said combustion chamber. The axial swirler for the secondary air (11) is formed by a plurality of blades each of which is made up of a stationary part (11a) and a mobile part (11b) connected to actuator means capable of moving it in an angular direction to give an air outlet angle of between 30.degree. and 60.degree.. The axial swirler for the tertiary air is conical in shape and has fixed blades. On the tertiary air duct a passage (16) is formed for supply of secondary and tertiary air.

  • Patent number: 5155047
Abstract: A method and an apparatus for measuring and controlling the efficiency of a combustion whereby, ash samples are drawn at predetermined time intervals from a region of a combustion plant, each drawn sample is set in an exhausted reaction cell, combustion reaction gas is introduced under controlled pressure, a superficial layer of the sample is heated to the carbon combustion temperature by a CO.sub.2 laser beam, the reaction gas is drawn from the cell and the amount of carbon dioxide produced by the carbon combustion is measured in a calibrated detector. The amount of unburnt carbon contained in the ashes is determined based on a preceding calibration carried out on ashes of known carbon content.

  • Patent number: 5145359
Abstract: An improved burner (4) for fuel oil and fuel gas with low NOx production, wherein the combustion air is subdivided in three streams and with flow rate control swirlers in each air streams. The stream of primary air is intercepted by a swirler comprising an array of radially fixed tabs (15) mounted in correspondence to the outlet section in the combustion chamber (3), while the secondary and tertiary air swirlers comprise tabs (18, 19) turnable around axes disposed perpendicular and parallel to the central axis of the burner, respectively. The primary and secondary air inlets have a variable, continuously adjustable section. Furthermore, there are provided mass rate meters (24, 25) near the outlet section of the secondary and tertiary air streams in the combustion chamber (3) substantially unaffected by the vorticity induced by said swirlers.

  • Patent number: 5143297
Abstract: Atomizer for viscous fuels formed by a first and a second mixing chamber arranged along a common longitudinal axis, the second chamber being formed by a cylindrical portion and two consecutive frustoconical portions on the conical walls of which two rows of orifices are placed for the inlet for the atomized fuel into the combustion chamber. The orifices are arranged according to two circumferences and have axes orthogonal to the conical walls on which they are placed, axes which meet inside the second mixing chamber at a point on the longitudinal axis. The orifices are equally angularly spaced and radially aligned. The angle between the axes of two orifices symmetrical with respect to the longitudinal axis of the outer row is comprised between 80.degree. and 120.degree., while the difference between this angle and the corresponding angle formed by the axes of the two symmetrical orifices of the inner row is not less than 20.degree..
