Patent number: 7795358Abstract: Poly(lactic acid) blends having a relatively high heat distortion temperature can be prepared by simple blending of PLA polymers of opposite stereoforms, followed by processing, e.g. by injection molding, under specific conditions of temperature and pressure, so as to produce a blend which, on differential scanning calorimetry, exhibits two peaks within the melting range of the stereocomplex. Moreover, by careful selection of these conditions of temperature and pressure, it is possible to use PLA polymers of significantly higher molecular weights than previously thought possible.Type: GrantFiled: February 22, 2008Date of Patent: September 14, 2010Assignee: Tate & Lyle Public Limited CompanyInventors: Nils Dan Anders Södergard, Erik Mikael Stolt, Heikki Kalervo Siistonen, Geoffrey A.R. Patent number: 7276126Abstract: A process for producing alpha-amylase resistant starch comprises extruding a feed starch at a temperature in the range of about 60-220° C., thereby producing a product alpha-amylase resistant starch. The feed starch can be in the form of an aqueous slurry or paste that has a dry solids concentration of at least about 50% by weight. The process optionally can include the additional step of heating the product starch to a temperature of at least about 90° C. in the presence of moisture, to increase further the alpha-amylase resistance of the product.Type: GrantFiled: June 3, 2005Date of Patent: October 2, 2007Assignee: Tate and Lyle Ingredients Americas, Inc.Inventors: Warren L. Nehmer, Geoffrey A. R. Nobes, Walter C. Yackel

Patent number: 5484475Abstract: Disclosed is an ink composition consisting essentially of water, a colorant, an organic component miscible with water, and micelles which comprise an ethoxylated alcohol. Also disclosed is a process for preparing an aqueous ink composition which comprises (a) admixing an ethoxylated alcohol with a water-miscible organic liquid at a temperature at or above the melting point of the ethoxylated alcohol to prepare a saturated solution of the ethoxylated alcohol in the organic liquid; (b) cooling the solution thus formed, thereby obtaining a solid solution with a melting point of from about 30.degree. to about 80.degree. C.; (c) admixing the saturated solution thus prepared with a mixture containing water and a water soluble dye at a temperature equal to or higher than the melting point of the ethoxylated alcohol solution, thereby resulting in an ink composition containing micelles which comprise the ethoxylated alcohol.Type: GrantFiled: August 29, 1994Date of Patent: January 16, 1996Assignee: Xerox CorporationInventors: Marcel P. Breton, Geoffrey A. R. Nobes
