  • Publication number: 20140134379
Abstract: A sandwich-structural composite is assembled from a front sheet and a back sheet that sandwich between them first and second open cell core panels that are spliced together along intermeshing edges of the panels with projections from the panels engaging into slots into the panels. There is no adhesive substance employed between the intermeshing edges of the two core panels. The joining and splicing of the intermeshing core panel edges retains the structural and acoustic capability of the composite without the need for adhesives (film, foaming, paste, potting compound, etc.) between the intermeshing edges of the core panels.

  • Patent number: 7559507
Abstract: Aircraft systems having thrust reversers with locking assemblies are disclosed herein. In one embodiment, an aircraft system includes a fan casing and a thrust reverser attached to the fan casing. The fan casing includes a first member. The thrust reverser includes a nozzle inner wall, a second member proximate to the nozzle inner wall for engaging with the first member, and a locking member positioned proximate to the first member. The locking member is movable between (a) a first position in which the first member is positioned between the locking member and the second member such that the locking member inhibits disengagement of the first and second members, and (b) a second position in which the locking member does not inhibit disengagement of the first and second members. The first member can be a V-groove, and the second member can be a V-blade.

  • Patent number: 6920958
Abstract: An aircraft engine assembly is provided that is adapted to reduce noise produced by an engine included in the engine assembly. The engine assembly includes a nacelle having an inlet section and a main section that is houses the engine and fan assembly associated with the engine. The inlet section is coupled to the main section at a main bulkhead junction between the inlet section and the main section. A one piece annular acoustic panel is located within a recess in an internal wall of the nacelle. The annular acoustic panel extends from a forward portion of the inlet section to a forward portion of the main section such that the bulkhead is covered by the annular acoustic panel.

  • Patent number: 5103634
Abstract: An engine end and thrust reversing assembly comprising an annular thrust diverting structure which in the cruise configuration is a rearward extension of a fan duct cowl structure. For thrust reversal, the thrust diverting structure is swung rearwardly and inwardly about an inboard hinge axis to form a laterally and forwardly directed thrust reversing opening. A transversely curved blocking plate is pivotally mounted about a vertical axis to the fan duct structure, and in the cruise configuration it is positioned adjacent to a forward extension of the thrust diverting structure so as to surround a portion of the exhaust passageway. In the thrust reversing position, the blocking plate is swung to a position where it extends across the exhaust passageway defined by the thrust diverting structure.
