  • Patent number: 4386824
Abstract: The rectangular reflector has lateral reflective portions and instead of having upper and lower planar fill-in portions which can result in undesirable reflections, has upper and lower reflective portions which are constituted by an infinite number of non-circular, e.g. parabolic or elliptical, curves. These curves extend forwardly of the reflector body to terminate at the front opening thereof. The curves have foci and focal axes which are coincident and increase progressively in focal length from the center of the reflector to the lateral reflective portions. Such a reflector has improved light collection and light spreading properties.

  • Patent number: 4305119
Abstract: A vehicle headlamp has a reflector provided with a reflective area lying on a surface defined by rotating an ellipse about an axis which passes through the inner focus of the ellipse and which is inclined an acute angle (1.degree.-2.degree.) to the focal axis of the ellipse. A shielded filament for producing an inclined cut-off line to the beam is used and is orientated in the opposite sense to that in which it is orientated in a conventional headlamp for producing an inclined cut-off. To produce a Z-beam pattern, lensing at the front of the reflector splits the area of the basic beam pattern immediately below a horizontal portion of the cut-off line into parts which define upper and lower, mutually laterally displaced horizontal cut-off portions in the required Z-beam pattern.

  • Patent number: 4208704
Abstract: A vehicle headlamp reflector comprises a dished body having a generally rectangular front opening and a bulb-receiving rear opening. The body is internally reflective and includes a first pair of laterally disposed reflective portions, a second pair of laterally disposed reflective portions, an upper reflective portion and a lower reflective portion. The portions are disposed inwardly of the respective portions, are on opposite sides of the opening and between the portions. The portions lie on the same paraboloidal surface while the portions lie on a different paraboloidal surface. The two paraboloid surfaces have common axes and common foci but the focal length of the paraboloidal surface in respect of the portions is less than the other paraboloidal surface.

  • Patent number: 4149229
Abstract: A lamp assembly has a reflector body formed of an injection moulded, low profile, thermoset polyester moulding composition with an integral sleeve having a stop internally of the body. A tubular bulbholder has an external flange engaging against the stop and carries a bulb. The reflector body has upper and lower paraboloidal portions of different focal length joined together by a step facing the lower paraboloidal portion. The step decreases in width inwardly from the periphery of the reflector body. The lower paraboloidal portion has a greater focal length than the upper paraboloidal portion which projects forwardly away from the rear of the reflector body to a greater extent than the lower paraboloidal portion. A mounting flange around the reflector body has a planar surface against which a lens element engages. The mounting flange is disposed between shield and the rear of the reflector body.
