  • Patent number: 8633292
Abstract: A photochromic composition for making optical materials comprising a polyurethane prepolymer formed by combining an isocyanate and a compound having an active hydrogen containing group, a polysilsequioxane and a photochromic compound. The photochromic composition may also include a monomer that has both an active hydrogen containing group and an unsaturated group. The polysilsesquioxane is incorporated as a copolymer and/or as a polysilsequioxane-chemically modified polyurethane.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: March 26, 2009
Date of Patent: January 21, 2014
    Assignee: Signet Armorlite
Inventors: Geoffrey Yuxin Hu, Thomas J. Engardio
  • Patent number: 8163357
Abstract: A scratch-resistant coating comprising a polymer including a functionalized polysilsesquioxane. The scratch-resistant coating is exposed to oxidizing conditions (e.g., ozone or ultraviolet light) that modify the surface chemistry of the coating to enhance adhesion to inorganic thin film coatings, such as antireflective coatings.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: March 26, 2009
Date of Patent: April 24, 2012
    Assignee: Signet Armorlite, Inc.
Inventors: Thomas J. Engardio, Geoffrey Yuxin Hu, Dae Ki Kang, Erick S. Rorye

  • Patent number: 7217756
Abstract: The present invention relates to an aqueous primer composition for use in manufacturing flexographic printing plates. The aqueous primer composition comprises a polyurethane, a copolymer, a layered silicate, and optionally a surfactant and/or a dye or pigment. The use of the layered silicate as a filler in the primer composition produces an improved primer composition with a stronger water/solvent resistance and less delamination.
    Type: Grant

Date of Patent: May 15, 2007
    Assignee: Napp Systems, Inc.
Inventors: Geoffrey Yuxin Hu, Elizabeth Olsen, David H. Roberts
  • Patent number: 7083896
Abstract: An improved digitally imageable relief printing element having an increased direct-cure imaging speed upon exposure to lasers and other digital sources of actinic radiation. The printing elements of the invention comprise a reflective layer beneath a photosensitive resin layer so that instead of being absorbed by the reflective layer, photons of actinic radiation are reflected back up into the photosensitive layer, thereby speeding up the curing rate of the printing element.

  • Publication number: 20040146806
Abstract: An improved photopolymerizable resin composition for use in making flexographic printing plates, wherein the resin composition comprises a base polymer, a reactive crosslinking agent, a photoinitiator, and a nanoparticle-sized filler. Printing plates produced using the improved compositions of the invention have increased toughness, less tack, reduced cold flow, and higher hardness as compared to prior art compositions that do not contain nanoparticle fillers.
