Abstract: A navigation device for land vehicles, particularly for passenger cars and trucks, is proposed which has a storage for geographical data, sensors for detecting actual travel data, a comparison device, and an information delivery device. The navigation device is characterized by the fact that the limit speed (v.sub.i) safe for travel over the path of travel is determined in a calculating unit (9) from the geographical data concerning the course of the path of the travel and is compared with the instantaneous speed of the vehicle. When the limit speed is exceeded in positive or negative direction, an information delivery device (11) is activated and possibly also a conversion device (13), they acting on setting members, for instance brakes or engine control of the vehicle.

Abstract: The invention relates to a method for carrying out a variable dialog with technical equipment that has a display and an input, such as a television screen with a touch keyboard. According to the invention, the dialog is to be carried out by means of the fisheye principle, in which, by means of one or more multi-stage input elements, the extent or scope of the functions that are shown and accessible in parallel, by means of a threshold value indicator, is adjustable by means of an input operation.

The picture screen of the monitor, preferably of the LCD, electro-luminescence or plasma type, is subdivided into a report region at the top and a region for interactive information such as instructions menus and operation results. All the functions that would otherwise be performed by individual buttons, knobs and switches of the various equipments installed in the vehicle may be simply performed by a series of easily designated choices. One input device has a ball control for directing a cursor on the screen of the monitor, a menu button and an entry button, and may be located on the steering wheel.

Abstract: A method of and device for selection or entry of a destination in a motor vehicle navigation system. The selection of a destination designation from a stored destination list or the entry of the destination designation is effected by selecting letter positions of the destination designation in a stepwise manner with a first component of a manual input element, and by running the alphabet through, per letter position, at a speed or step size which can be varied as desired until the desired letter is reached with a second component of a manual input element. The acknowledgement of the selected letters or numbers is effected by means of an optical display and, in particular, acoustically by means of vocal output.
