    Abstract: Methods and systems are disclosed to realistically simulate facial wrinkle aging of a person using a neutral state (natural look) image and one or more expression images (e.g., smile, frown, pout, wink) that induce wrinkles. The neutral and expression images are processed to simulate wrinkle aging by registering the wrinkles that are visible in the expression image onto the neutral image, thereby generating a wrinkle-aged simulated image. Advantageously, a person's own wrinkle histological data is utilized, hence providing an accurate and realistic wrinkle aging simulation. Similarly, the neutral image is processed to eliminate all visible wrinkles thereby generating a wrinkle de-aged simulation image. Additionally, blending of a neutral image with an aged or de-aged simulation image is disclosed, where the degree of blending is based on statistical modeling of skin condition with age and/or expected outcome of a particular type of treatment.

    Abstract: The apparatus and method of the present invention provides a process that can be implemented by a human operator and a computing device to analyze and display human skin images. The system acquires a digital image from a camera or scanner. Subsequently, the system determines which area(s) of the image to analyze using landmarks such as the corner of the eye. The determined areas are then analyzed to locate skin defects such as red spots, and the defects are visually identified on a display. A severity is calculated for the defects and the severity is compared to an average skin severity associated with a population of people. In addition, a simulation is generated and displayed showing an improvement to the defect areas.

The bore (13) and the upper plunger element (17) define a radial clearance sufficient that the clearance and the openings (55) comprise substantially the only fluid path from the fluid port (35) to the chamber (21). The invention reduces the machining of the body (11) and the upper plunger (17) which are normally required, thus substantially reducing the cost of the lash adjuster.

A metering valve is disposed in the passage, and in accordance with the invention (FIGS. 2-4), a shank portion (77) of the metering pin (73) defines a metering passage (81). During normal operation, pressure in the low pressure chamber (21) biases the metering pin (73) upward, to a position in which fluid can flow from the chamber (21), through the metering passage (81), to the external surface (71) of the ball plunger (61). When pressure in the chamber (21) is very low, or negative, a head portion (75) is disposed against a seat (69) in the manner of a check valve. The up and down movement of the pin (73) prevents the metering passage (81) from becoming plugged with contaminants.

In one embodiment, a dynamic seal member (27) is disposed between the lower plunger element (19) and the bore (13), such that leakdown flow must go from the high pressure chamber (23), past a check ball (53), to the low pressure chamber (21). In order to achieve a more consistent operation of the lash adjuster, the check ball (53) is normally biased toward an open position (FIG. 1) by a compression spring (69), but as flow from the chamber (23) to the chamber (21) increases, the spring force is overcome, and the check ball (53) seats in the desired manner.
