Abstract: A secure data processing system having a plurality of resources accessible over a network arrangement such as the Internet and including a server, maintains lists of three categories of access authorization information. A resource list contains path or location information such as a universal resource locator (URL). A profile list maintains a plurality of profile data specifying individual resources or combinations of resources. A user list contains a userID or other data by which a user may be authenticated to the server and one or more profiles freely assignable to respective users. An access control program allows administrator supervision of editing of the lists of user access authorization information. An authorization program performs authorizations to resources for all users based on the profile information of respective users upon completion of editing.

Abstract: A system and method for notifying a user of changes in a hyperlinked document, the system comprising a computer, a server operatively coupled with the computer, a web browser that executes in the computer, the web browser accessing web pages stored on the server, and a general notification system integrally connected with the web browser, the general notification system configured to provide a notification icon on a web page, wherein notification of any changes to the hyperlinked document can be requested by selecting the notification icon. The method comprising providing a notification icon within a web page having a hypertext link associated with the hyperlinked document, selecting the notification icon, and notifying the user of any changes to the hyperlinked document.

Abstract: Common Gateway Interface (CGI) processing is performed on networks such as the Internet, or Web, to allow users to enter input data, via CGI forms presented as Web pages by a browser, for processing by a network server. Existing CGI processing methods entail form-specific handling programs for each distinct CGI form, which typically number in the thousands. The present invention simplifies and streamlines CGI processing by providing a single, generalized CGI processing routine for a plurality of distinct CGI forms.
