  • Patent number: 5122796
Abstract: Apparatus for detecting the presence of an object within an area under surveillance employs an electro-optical emitter for directing light into the area and an electro-optical receiver for sensing light reflected from the object which originates from the emitter. The emitter emits light energy of a preselected wavelength and is modulated at a preselected frequency to provide the emanating light energy with a characteristic signature. Light reflected by an object within the area under surveillance is filtered and converted to an electrical signal which varies in accordance with the magnitude of the filtered light having the preselected wavelength and modulation frequency. A selected portion of the electrical signal is amplified by a band-pass amplifier and is synchronously sampled in accordance with the modulation frequency to determine the magnitude of the filtered light which originated from the emitter.

  • Patent number: 4495957
Abstract: A flossing device (10) having a body (12) comprising a handle portion (26) and a barrel portion (28) terminating in a pair of spaced prongs (16, 18). A spool of floss (24) is mounted on the body (12), and is threaded about the body (12) in a plurality of grooves (70, 72, 74, 76) such that a length of floss (80) for flossing the teeth extends across the space between the prongs (16, 18). A trigger mechanism (20) operable by the same hand used to grasp the device (10) pinches the floss for tensioning the length (80) in one position and releases the floss for advancement to expose a new, clean length of floss (80) in a second position. The trigger mechanism (20) is moveable to a position wherein all soiled surfaces are fully exposed for cleaning.

  • Patent number: 4443034
Abstract: A folding platform for a vehicle (12) comprising a first series of panels (2, 3, 4), and a second series of panels (5, 7, 9) which may be unfolded within the vehicle (12) to form load carrying shelves or a platform which may be used to support a mattress. The first series of panels (2, 3, 4), one of which is affixed to a shaft, rotate as a unit with the shaft. The panels fold to be stored against the rear of a folding seat back (11) in close parallel proximity to the seat back (11), thus occupying only a small volume and not interfering with the use of the rear cargo area or trunk (30) of the vehicle (12). The panels may be disposed in a flexible fabric container (101, 105) with seams between the panels serving as hinges.

  • Patent number: 4223939
Abstract: An attachment is provided for converting a vehicle, such as a compact car, into an expandable vehicle having an enlarged expandable usable volume, the attachment replaces a removed body portion of a standard type vehicle, such as the rear body panel of an automobile or a side body panel of a van, and is pivotally connected to the balance of the vehicle by an accordian folding hood to define an original enclosed usable volume in the collapsed position of the hood. The attachment comprises an extension shell whose volume is bisected by a diagonal extending through the pivot axis for the extension shell. The diagonal defines the confronting edges of the extension shell with the balance of the vehicle in the collapsed position of the hood. The extension shell in the collapsed position of the hood defines a half volume for the enclosed usable volume which when pivotally rotated about the pivot axis through an angle of 90.degree.

The body portion in the collapsed position of the hood defines a half volume for the enclosed usable volume which when pivotally rotated about the pivot axis through an angle of 90 degrees describes an arch for the diagonal which defines a path of travel for the accordion hood to create a new expanded enclosed usable volume having an increased headroom and a total enclosed volume greater than twice that of the original enclosed volume.
