  • Patent number: 4564223
Abstract: A permanently attachable coupling for high pressure multiple layer wire reinforced hydraulic hose in which the grip on the hose is achieved by the penetration of plural gripping teeth through the cover of the hose directly into engagement with the wire reinforcement. The coupling includes an overlapped shell arrangement in the region of at least one gripping tooth to provide a deeper penetration of that tooth into the reinforcement structure when the shell is crimped into engagement with the hose. The nipple structure of the coupling includes an annular gripping ridge in the region of the overlap which produces a pincer-like grip upon the hose.

  • Patent number: 4527414
Abstract: A crimping machine for attaching metal hose couplings to flexible hose includes a hydraulic actuator for forcing a circular array of die segments toward the narrow end of a tapered opening in the base of the machine in order to radially constrict the die segments and the coupling. The die segments are supported on a die separator in the machine and may be joined into two groups of segments, each individually removeable from the machine to facilitate loading and unloading of the hose couplings. A die ring is placed over the die segments to assure simultaneous movement thereof and to limit the stroke of the actuator, as a crimp diameter limiting device. The die ring is split into halves to facilitate loading. One half of the die ring is removeable and the mating half is slidably mounted on the actuator so as to remain in position over one group of die segments upon retraction of the actuator. An adapter bowl is also disclosed for a smaller range of hose couplings.

  • Patent number: 4226446
Abstract: A hose coupling for permanent attachment to a hose having a reinforcing braid layer intermediate inner and outer layers of rubber or plastic has an outer sleeve which is crimped to the hose at at least three axially spaced zones. The coupling includes an insert inside the hose having axially spaced annular ridges engaging the inner surface of the hose. The outermost crimped zone overlies a ridge and the spacing between the crimped zones is greater than the spacing between the annular ridges to provide spaced inwardly progressive zones of progressively less crimping pressure.
