  • Patent number: 4488079
Abstract: A large turbine generator is provided with a stator end winding assembly that includes a large conical member outside the coils which is joined by banding with adjusting rings radially inside the coils, with an adjusting means for each banding location that includes a wedge extending through an aperture in a portion of the adjusting ring that extends away from the coil and having a fastener that is joined to the wedge so that upon the tightening of the fastener, the wedge will be forced in the axial direction bearing against the banding and hence tightening it; and in addition, the conical member is provided with projections serving as torque splines that fit within apertures of the core so as to prevent its rotational movement in operation.

  • Patent number: 4415825
Abstract: A clamping mechanism for the end turns of a dynamoelectric machine is disclosed which permits periodic retightening and provides a means for compensating for misalignment of the clamping components. Annular spacers are provided, each of which have two nonparallel planar surfaces. When two of these spacers are combined in a coplanar association, they can be rotationally positioned relative to each other to provide spatial compensation between a nut and a clamping surface which is nonperpendicular to the threaded bar with which the nut is in threaded communication. The nut and spacers are fixed to the threaded bar with a covering of thermal setting tape to prevent relative movement and possible unthreading.

  • Patent number: 4387317
Abstract: A method and apparatus for securing end windings of turbine generators is described. The invention comprises a hose and a dry filament subcomposite disposed therein. By choosing suitable proportions of the subcomposite components, the coefficient of thermal expansion of the total hose assembly is preselectable with reasonable accuracy.

  • Patent number: 4379243
Abstract: An end turn support structure is disclosed which permits it to be constructed with varying, preselected coefficients of expansion along its length. This characteristic allows it to expand in a similar manner to the end turns which it supports. This structure also comprises conformable members and external support apparatus that provide a means for firmly attaching the end turns to the support structure and the support structure to the stator frame.

  • Patent number: 4315173
Abstract: A dynamoelectric machine's segmented baffle assembly comprises a baffle ring which is bolted to a back-up plate disposed in the stator core. The annular-shaped baffle ring is formed from a plurality of arcual segments, each segment secured by at least one of said bolts. For low flow rates of coolant gas, the air gap can be further reduced by means of a teflon insert located on the inner circumferential surface of the baffle ring. For expeditious access to the rotor assembly, only one of said segments need be.

  • Patent number: 4138873
Abstract: A tool for forming substantially rectangular cross sections on conduits. Two mateable collars are disposable about the exterior of a conduit and have forming surfaces which can be pressed against the conduit's wall to predetermined extents to cause the conduit to assume the desired outside rectangular dimensions. Such pressing is provided by two threaded fasteners, each of which extend through one of the collar members and into threaded engagement with the mateable collar. The assembled collar configuration may be disengaged from, rotated about, and reclamped on the exterior of the conduit so as to provide uniform wall formation if the shape of the desired conduit permits such collar rotation. To assure complete contact between the conduit's exterior and the forming surfaces of the collar, two wedge members are axially inserted in the conduit's opening.

  • Patent number: 4118645
Abstract: Disclosed is a dynamoelectric machine with a tubular shaped stator assembly having a generally cylindroid rotor assembly mounted therein. There is a clearance between the outer circumference of the rotor and the inner circumference of the stator for the passage of cooling gas. On one end of the stator assembly there is mounted a dual position air gap baffle assembly. In one position the baffle assembly will regulate the flow of cooling gas in the clearance space between the dynamoelectric machine's stator and rotor; and in the other position, there is a keystone shaped opening which will make the rotor assembly accessible.

  • Patent number: 4114059
Abstract: A discharge chamber seal arrangement for a water cooled turbine generator rotor. The discharge chamber seal arrangement comprises a gland seal operable during high speed operation of the rotor and a contact seal operable during low rotor speed and at standstill. Helical grooves located on the inside diameter of the gland seal develops an axial pressure gradient in the fluid annulus surrounding the shaft to reduce the leakage flow at speed through the gland seal. The helical grooves apply a pumping action which opposes the leakage flow.
