    Abstract: A disc brake assembly includes an improved pad holder for holding a brake pad in the brake assembly. The pad holder takes the form of a simple spring clip, preferably a wire form, that holds the rear surface of the pad tightly against the front surface of the piston or pistons of the associated caliper to prevent brake drag and brake rattle. The clip is simple and inexpensive to manufacture and can be easily installed without removing the disc or the caliper from the brake assembly. Indeed, the pad/pad holder subassembly can be removed from the brake assembly, without using any special tools, simply by imposing sufficient upward vertical retraction forces on the pad/pad holder subassembly to deflect the spring clip and to remove the pad holder from the pistons to which it is attached.

    Abstract: A brake disk has an inner annular portion or hub area and an outer annular portion or rub area that are interconnected by a number of spaced arms extending radially and circumferentially between the inner and outer annular portions. The arms can be formed (e.g. stamped) in a number of configurations, whereby the stress on the disk caused by the heat generated in the outer annular portion during braking is relieved by arm deflection, thus preventing warping of the disk. The arms are also configured to distribute stress relatively evenly throughout the arms during expansion and contraction of the outer annular portion, thereby preventing cracks and fractures.

    Abstract: A bicycle brake system includes a flexible brake disk, a fixed mount single acting caliper, fixed and moveable brake pads and a brake actuator. The caliper is mounted on the bicycle frame in a position to straddle the brake disk. The fixed brake pad is mounted on one side of the caliper, and the moveable brake pad is mounted on the other side of the caliper. The brake actuator is on the moveable brake pad side of the brake disk and is aligned with the flexible brake disk. Upon actuation of the brake actuator, the flexible brake disk is flexed into engagement with the fixed brake pad.

The angle of each arm being such that the heat generated in the outer ring causes the outer end of the arms to expand in relation to the expansion of the outer ring and to contract on cooling to return the outer ring to its original position.

The anti-rotation device including an adjusting member connected to the other end of the sheath and mounted for axial movement in the housing, the adjusting member also including a threaded bore; a cable adjusting member mounted for rotary motion in the housing and having a threaded stud matingly engaging the threaded bore in the adjusting member, a thumb wheel mounted on the threaded stud for adjusting the length of the sheath and a cover mounted on the housing and including a number of ribs for preventing rotation of the thumb wheel.
